$750 is more than a few bucks to me. And I don’t sweat either. There are better ways to stay comfortable than wasting money and ruining my engine. Actually I feel like an idiot idling my truck it drives me nuts

Something simple as hauling hazmat. Almost all one truck operators can’t haul it , so you find a way and increase revenue.
Lift gate, pads, straps, crane trailer(van) ramps, heated trailer, roller bed, TSA, find something to set you apart from the heard.

Walmart is doubling their fleet,, Amazon is looking for in-house carriers to run for nothing, plus Uber. The oil field is slow putting thousands of sand haulers in competition for load board freight,
You can’t do what Blair does overnight, it take a big learning curve, I haul a lot of tall loads, but again you can’t do it without training and help.

Point is you need to find a way out of the big pool, make a plan and go for it before you go belly up.

I wasn’t born until the mid 70’s.

I happily listen to folks that started jamming gears while I was figuring my way around the nursery. Win or lose, the stories still intrigue me.

I figured early enough there wasn’t a lot of wheel re-engineering that needed to be done. Bless those that have.

I am sure I could have waited longer on some of the stuff. I would rather spend the money up front and not break down in the middle of no where with a load.

A “May as well” transmission rebuild in January turned out to be a “Lucky you did” -

February would have been a wrecker.

I'm leased to a carrier that I'm very happy with on percentage .
Yes the the rates have dropped off a bit ( reefer ) from last summer but im not starving on contract freight and seldom see broker loads which are generally not good .
Even when things come back which they will I'll stay where I am for the stability .
I'm not into all the deek swinging bs and have adjusted accordingly by slowing down averaging 7s and 8s for mpg while the cowboys blow by me at 75 mph .
As I've said before my pals that laughed at me 2 years ago arnt laughing at me now .

Now how do I know this? Years back I got a blood work done and everything came out okay except a little low in zinc! The doc said I was fine. Who knew, right? I suspect the people who make these truck stop foods pack them with plenty of vitamins and minerals. It might explain why it isn’t always tasty. Hahaha.

I don’t know if truck stop foods are high in essential nutrients but I know they are high on fat.

I rather stay with vitamins and veggies plus the occasion dinner from a normal restaurant.

We used it when we need to. In the old time, when winter storms made 68 too bad or risky it's easier to hop onto the pike long enough to get around the winter storm in the rain (has done this many times) and drop into WVa for Kentucky in a timely manner.

We no longer had the trucks like the early 89's that I used to go through 68 to Wva in piles of snow. No more of that steel and so forth. Everything went to plastic and unable to pull anything in 3 inches of snow today. We lost something along the way.

However we would use the 30 alot in the midwest, US 20 and so on US Highways rather than the tolls. Hardly any traffic than other trucks most of the time small towns. A couple filled with very predatory Lawman if you did not watch it.

If we had to we used to tolls to make Indianapolis from Baltimore overnight in a 10 hour period. Today that's a bit much. Especially as the tolls has risen beyond reason and the speeds were cut down. You cannot roll along at 70ish. If you really had a good run and hardly any weather or traffic, Effingham or stateline petro at IN-IL becomes possible.

I made a timely migration to the south and western states to get clear of the East Coast as much as possible. They were essentially choking on their own efforts to cut speeding, regulate time, count tolls wasted etc. And the increasing gridlock has to be seen to believe.

For example I cross the GWB into NYC several times a day all week for 12 or so dollars then. Now it's a grotesque 106 something odd dollars to get across. And with the Zee blown up. (The Zee was always somewhat cheaper than the GWB if you could stand certain exits to wriggle into CT.

Not much of that out here.
