The safety director at Fleetmaster express is a complete idiot. People hate safety directors because they make the job harder than it needs to be. Fleetmaster runs spot operations for numerous millercoors plants and safety cut all our spotter trucks down from 45 to 32 and complain because we can't keep up with the demands of shipping. The way I look at it safety needs to spend a week with the crew learning what they do and then they wouldn't be walking around with their you know what up their you know where.

The saftey guy is telling you to drive slower than 55 in the middle lane. he will then go on about refreshed you will feel after a day of driving like that because of reduced stress. (true story)
    What do you think?

Safety guys don't usually stay at a company long enough to garner any hatred!

I liked my last safety director. He was straight up and one of the few at the company that didn't lie to you. :)

You're right semi, he quit! They get a lot of pressure. We hire you to make this company compliant. But then you can't get dispatch and other dept's to work with you, it's like beating your head against the wall.

I got a call once after 3 hard braking incidents in one night, I was wired up on a qualcom. The safety guy and my dispatcher asks me why and I tell them it's US101 in north CA in the middle of the night and there where a lot of deer. I was told that 3 was just unacceptable and I was going to have to come in for a remedial.

Well ok then your not going to see me have any more hard breaks.

Next week I just set the cruise at 55 and took out 2 dear, tore up the hood. I get a call from the same guy and he asks what happened. I tell him well I could have stopped but that would have created a indecent on my qualcom. Since there was no risk of damage to the public I decided it wasn't worth a remedial..... you can't have it both ways buddy. Needless to say I didn't get any more calls.

I'm ok with my safety director. As long as you turn in legal logs, passed inspections, and get no tickets, you'll never ever hear from him.

It helps that he used to drive for thus company before getting the job.

So far my safety guy is a good dude, like ramkatral said if your logs are legal and no tickets you'll never see the guy other than him wanting to BS.

Funny story: yesterday my truck was in the shop and i was in the sleeper cleaning up and making my bed and the safety guy jumps in the truck to put a new EZ-pass in it and he had no clue I was in there "I popped my head out of the sleeper curtains and said "whats up?" he about fell over dead, his look was priceless!

Did work for..... it was Schneider, not a bad company but they really have some brilliant management. Everyone's experience with that company is different depending on what yard you work out of and what division.

When the bean counters start cutting the fat, the safety guy is usually first.
