So why does everyone hate the safety director?

I've had our idiot "safety director" actually go in and CHANGE my e-logs after I've approved them

I ran out of hours at a receiver. Needed to get to the yard when empty. So I used "line 5" (off duty driving, personal conveyence) for 35 mi.

Next day I notice my e-log says I drove over my 14, then I see that the idiot safety director had changed that off duty driving to "driving", thus causing an HOS violation. I refused to "approve" it but now I can't change it back because we can't edit driving time. So I called the idiot to see why he did that and he said "we can't use personal conveyence with an empty trailer any more, it can only be bobtailing".

So what's the difference? His interpretaion of improper use of personal conveyance, or an OBVIOUS, unmistakable driving over my 14??? I made him change it back to off duty driving.

Because he's a lighting rod for crap from both sides (drivers and dispatch). So he's caught in the middle.

I have a friend with FFE, one day he was asked to pick up a load, he said he didn't have enough hours to make it, they told him to worry about the load, they'll fix the hours...He did and they did....

I have always thought "safety" and dispatch should be sitting side by side;no kiddin, where ever I am working, they are always on opposing ends of the building.:biggrin_2554: Safety does the "talk" but,it seems to me,that is all it is,truly, how can "safety" not know what is actually going on?

Electronic logs should have been an opportunity to reinvent HoS.

I think many driver's with paper logs shift and borrow time but at the end of the day make it all add up. I think an electronic log book should be more flexible and actually allow drivers to borrow time if they need to for safety reasons like parking or leaving an area they think is dangerous. But if borrowing extra time the E-log should penalize their running time for the next day.

The key difference though would be allowing flexibility but still not allowing people to be super truckers.

Because ours is an outright Nazi! /sarcasm

Actually I like mine. If I have an issue, they basically boil it down to "Is it legal or not?" and if it's not legal, then don't do it. If it's legal but straining to the driver, then at least give your best shot. If it's legal and no strain on the driver, it had BETTER get done.

They're fair but they don't take crap off their drivers.
