I use Quickbooks pro and payroll for invoicing, and IFTA plus for keeping ifta records and filing. eclipse logbook program.

I looked into a factoring company but in the end I just financed my fuel and payroll myself and waited for the checks to come in.

I hear you I am not all about the chrome and light that all will come in time this truck I found is actually cheaper then the ones without it. I think because the miles are higher. I like the 387 and T2 because of the room they offer. If I could find a freightliner with a 75 inch sleeper I might consider because they normally run cummins a cheaper engine for me to work on. This 387 also has the APU and not very often I find a truck with on under 20,000. I am probably going to govern the truck myself for 68 that way I won't be tempted to run with the big dogs out there. I was also looking at a volvo that was really nice.

Do you pick cars the same way?

No offense, dude, but if you can't control your need for speed, you should be in a beancounter's company truck.

This TMC truck you're looking at, you're looking at it because you can afford it. It's due for an inframe. Can you afford an inframe? You're looking at $22000 for a Cat inframe with a factory warrantee. Why not get a $30000 truck that had the inframe with the papers? You save 10 grand.

I do pick my cars the same way I get something affordable I know I can work on. As for a 30,000 truck for a 1st time owner operator it wouldn't make sence.

All my costly mistakes will happen in my 1st year I can get a lower priced higher mileaged truck run it for a year and trade up that way if I go under I am not going under with a large investment.

I have seen cats with well over a million miles before they needed a inframe it just depends on how well it was taken care of.

As for the speed its just not about controlling my speed you actually get better fuel mileage with a governed turned down truck then one that is wide open. And I have noticed through a couple insurance companies the insurance is less with a governed turned down truck.

I have another question. I see alot people saying credit report on shippers or brokers, where can I get this information? Ive read it tells you how the people pay or if they are in debt I think this is some valuable information I would really like to know more about it. I hate to book a good paying load to find out the broker is known to stiff the drivers.

On another note I decided to go with a T2000 I like the 387s but they seemed to be priced high. 900k for 20,000 when a T2000 with 500k is 14,000 for same year truck. The only problem is the T2 don't have APUs but Im thinking a honda generator will do just fine until I can find a nice used APU.

I have decided to run a flatbed also the pay is slightly higher then van or reefer and if I stay south like mentioned earlier I can do alright. I am planning on getting a military contract. Since I am 100% medically retired I can go to veterans affairs and become a veteran owned business by doing this I am entitled to 3% of all military freight. 3% might not be much but it could equal 1000s of loads and from experience working with Mercer drivers they average 3-4.00 a miles of course the drivers only get 2 or 2.50 from this.
