Is anyone planning to race the shadow across Oregon? From the NASA website:

    • 2410mph in Western Oregon
    • 1747mph in central Nebraska
    • 1462mph in Western Kentucky
    • 1502mph near Charleston SC
    • Guess if you happen to own a SR71 Blackbird, you could keep up with it

If it rains in Nebraska while they're all looking up at the sky trying to figure out why it's so dark..... the whole state could drown

Expect traffic jams to last days, maybe longer. Don't expect any rescue response due to high volume. Please don't tie up 911 with unnecessary calls.

That's where I'm thinkin the trouble is going to lie. Everyone has to be first to get back and they'll be bashing into each other all over the place. I agree 1000%

At this fine hour there is a steady heavy flow heading nb on I-25. traveling at the posted speed limit.

    Destination unknown.

However, traffic has been normal thie past few days, it's been rather light for what is expected.

That would be the safest thing to do.
Here is an article about a man who looked at the solar eclipse for "seconds" back in 1991, and suffered permanent damage.

Here is a rather complete map for today's eclipse.

I expect 90% or more of the sun to go away around 1:15 Pm today. It should last about a hour for me, Totality will only be about 2.40 seconds long for those near Cape Garedau Mo.

    http://www.eclipse-maps.com/Eclipse-Maps/GAE_files/GreatAmericanEclipse_1920x1080_1.jpg

My last one was somewhat shady and overcast at 30% back in 1979, this one should be approaching night. But not quite.

If you have internet or satellite tv with NASA, it might provide a safe viewing today for those who cannot view the eclipse without protection. It's really important you do not be looking at this without proper protection, you can fry your eyes pernamently.

    Lepton1 and pattyj Thank this.
