While on the subject of maintenance and avoiding problems here are the benefits of using a fuel additive such as Howes, Pittsburgh Power etc. Some on here have called additives snake oil but the science/data says otherwise. I realize OP is a company driver.
1 - Increased fuel mileage. Howes guarantees at least 5%. Some find that hard to believe. Ex: 7mpg so 5% would be .35 or three and a half tenths of a gallon increase. Does not seem like a lot but this adds up over a lot of miles and the additive will more than pay for itself. Howes has a calculator on their website to show the savings.
I did find an article from about 2010 from a major automotive magazine where they used fuel additives in a 199x Ford diesel (not ULSD) and gained 5% or more in mpg even using 2 cycle oil.
2 - Less soot, and soot is abrasive. This shows in oil samples after using an additive. Less regens per drivers that use it. And the soot wipes off components such as the turbo fins instead of it being baked on.
3 - It is lubricating which helps especially with ULSD which is not as lubricating as the older diesel. So that is good for the pump and injectors.
4 - It is also an injector cleaner.
