This tricking of the thermometer will allow the truck to idle, but your idle time will still be recorded and reported to the company. I'm also betting the temp of the outside air temp will also be recorded, since it is sensed by the truck. In a short time this clever driver will be having a discussion with the company about what can explain his truck saying it's 110 degrees everywhere he parks and does he understand tampering with the truck is a firing offense.
You will not change the trucking company, that's why you have to know what you are walking into before you hire on with a company. Everyone that says "just grab any job they are all the same" doesn't care about the people they think they are helping. If you sign up for a no-idle, no APU company that is what you will live with until you are fired. Getting fired, having 2 months experience, and tampering with the last truck will not make it easier to find a better job at a better company with a better idle policy or APU for the truck. "Know before you go." Talk to current working drivers doing the job you are getting hired to do. If you don't, you will have too many jobs in too short of a period to get hired at the companies that treat you better.
