Solving 60-90 day billing terms to get paid

Discussion in 'Ask An Owner Operator' started by wildturkey8*, Apr 15, 2021.

Would you pay a service to have immediate payment rather than waiting 60+ days to get paid?

Prior to trucking deregulation of 1980 freight charges were due in 7 days. You could contact the ICC and file a report. Icc would call company demanding payment. No payment, Icc suspended their authority! This process normally took just a few days. No filing on bonds and hoping to get paid.

That's how it should be. Once they get the invoice send it out the next day. Our avg is 10-14 days

It was (part 377) 15 days, not 7 days for common authority. Contract authority can set whatever terms they want. Even though the FMCSA combined common/contract there are still many of us that have both.

The company I probably haul for the most takes anywhere from 2 days to an average of 15 days and the last one went to a bit over 30 days. I don’t mind because everything about them is decent. Good rates, great communication, no harassment and they know I am not dicking around when I call them. Other than that most pay really quick. I do have a few that are Quickpay setup but my limit on that is 1.5% any more than that it isn’t worth it. Even then not really worth the hassle.
    who is taking 60-90 days?

Yes sorry. 15 is correct. I used to be leased to a company that required 7. Bold type at bottom of freight bill. Just like mine now. Figure it might help if anyone pushes the issue. Can't hurt.

There was an attorney one time that wanted to set up an escrow account for payment. Shipper had to put the money in escrow before the truck was loaded. When empty and clean BOL's the attorney would pay(minus a fee) He was offering the "service" to anyone who would listen.

Like others here I wait 30 days then call on day 31. Only had to do so twice in the last seven months and both times the check arrived a few days after. If days to pay is over 30 I just ignore that broker. In this market why would you bother with shifty brokers?
