We currently live together so still... I will have to do my part. No rent would be nice though lol
Would nice to save and put a down payment on a nice Mack if I decide to become a owner operator
Some Advice?

OH MY GOODNESS! You MEAN you are LIVING IN SINN?
Well, I guess we all have to live somewhere.
I live in Utah....
Perhaps, if you will not be living there, SHE will pay all of the rent?
Hey, I was just trying to be helpful there!
-
I live in Sin City and it's ok.
-
And here I thought you were in Henderson....
-
I can't see the difference; I'm a 10 minute drive from the strip. Most people never heard of Henderson anyway.Big Don Thanks this.

Man I stay away from the strip as much as possible. I sure didn't lose anything down there, other than money. Only time I go to the strip is if we have out of town company that really wants to see it. And since Alice has been sick, we haven't had out of town company. That's been a year now.Chinatown Thanks this.

Trucking is something... you never know till you have tried for 6 months... I got my CDL at a community college - in GA - and paid practically nothing.... EXCELLENT program... THE BEST in the state... had no idea what exactly I was getting into... but was super curious, had some friends who were truck drivers... I needed to make a change in my life and had nothing to lose... Some folks told me to stick with it for at least 6 months... even if I didn't like it right away... So, I gathered my savings cause I expected not to make much money on the first year... After 6 months, I got rid of my rented place and put all my things in a storage...
Have been living in the truck for almost 9 years now and still like it... Have saved enough money to buy a house... but not sure when I will buy one... maybe when I retire... or maybe when I decide to do something else... Who knows...
Wish you good luck whatever you decide... but if you try trucking, have some savings... just in case... choose a community college for the CDL program... much better and will cost you practically nothing... and you will not be dependent on any company.... Find a company with good safety record... My first one was Rohel Transport. Stick with it for at least one year... if not possible, at least stick with trucking for 6 months before you make up your mind... Drive OTR for one year to get experience... then it will be easier to choose something else... Cook in the truck, as much as possible... Food on the road is VERY EXPENSIVE and most of it is CRAP....
Keep saving your money... Stay on the road for at least one month at a time so you can make some money...
Keep coming to the forum... folks here are TERRIFIC! Very helpful, funny, entertaining... and makes lonely life on the road a little less lonely...
Hey Mr. @Big Don did I forget anything sir?
Big Don, BigNorm4Life and Suspect Zero Thank this. -
Thinking of no traffic in the northeast? HA. Get rid of that idea. One good smashup on the Q bridge snarls 95 from NYC all the way to Boston some days. and nights. Then truckers show up in herds.
Your airport requires a TWIC card more than likely.
As far as pay, your food will eat away at your earning. Its hideously expensive in retail.
You will have to be Union or something close to see 20 dollar plus in trucking per hour. It does not happen. The best you can do for example here in Jonesboro it's 15 an hour ready mix concrete tanking and you work really hard for that. It used to be 8.50 10 years ago. Inflation has it's moments. -

All depends on where you are. I got buddies driving Class B making way more than I do. Union Construction companies, concrete, trash, city jobs can pay pretty descent. The Union ones typically pay OT after 8/hrs day and 40/hrs week. Adds up fast. Getting your A is always good for options but I wouldn't pass a Class B job if the pay was right. In the Class A world it does resume damage to us, but I care about money more than anything some moron thinking I'm just gonna forget how to pull a trailer.
