Since you got a bunch of good answers I'll just add that I'd try to buck you off too if you tried to give my truck gas.

Where is this training going on? I am going to buy a beat up wrecker and open a shop nearby replacing clutches and driveline components. Anybody In?

No reason to start higher than 2nd unless you're on a downhill empty then maybe 3rd. No gas pedal, ease out the clutch and go from there. You could probably use 3rd bobtail

    SO

my instructor doesn't want me to start in 2nd! he says he doesn't want to risk me accidentally going into reverse! so the lowest I can go is 3rd. and not first because "that's way to slow to start out in"....
yeah. It was hard to get him to let me not start in 4th....

So I start in 3rd, I need to work on the slow release of the clutch while keeping the rpms around 6-8, so its still a choppy start but its getting a little better. The other 2 with me have driven manuals and have no trouble getting it starting smooth in 4th so its definitely possible.

Im never going to be doing this on my road test or when I go to a company, but I gotta please this dude, idgaf if I #### their truck up since they seem to want me too.

With that said, any tips on making this work better being I have to do it? correct rpms to have it at? can I go to high with the rpms (to a reasonable limit) or will it just improve the chances of starting smooth? when I hit the point of it starting to disengage I am going slow but should I be going like extremely extremely slow? im having a hard time putting it together.

he's a fool......try that on a company road test, or maybe even the DMV road test, let us know how you do then....

i know how i have been doing it for these past 27 years now. never a burnt out clutch, never any chopping or jumping.

    best of luck to you.

Your trainer is a total idiot. There is no way you will hit reverse from 2nd
