please no fighting. I mean I'd be happy with 450 a week after taxes. I'm a kiss ### and will take any load they throw my way. my ultimate goal would be to get a local dedicated route after a year or too or even just do something locally that requires a class A . I love my family and can handle a 1-2 year separation. I do have sleep apnea which is gonna be a problem I guess. I can't afford a sleep study but I'm sure I can get some wealthy family member to help me out in that department since it will be for the benefit of the family. I just want a better life for my family. is it dot that requires sleep studies?

DOT does not require the sleep studies...yet.

If you can handle making very little for the first few months you will do okay. The pay gets better after that, usually.

The dr who will do your dot pyhisical is the one who will order the study.
Welcome and best of luck! Pick which carrier you most want to work for who
Takes students, then see which schools they hire out of. Comm colleges
Are often the best value! Often far cheaper.

There has been a section on the DOT physical form for years that asks if there is an indication of sleep anea or other respiratory problems . It has just gained attention lately because doctors connected with sleep study centers are lobbying for more drivers to be tested .
Sleep apnea will not disqualify you from driving if you are getting proper treatment . I think you could avoid the sleep study if your doctor certified you were already getting proper treatment .
Some carriers won't hire drivers with sleep apnea or needing medication for blood pressure .
They just want drivers that qualify for the 2 year medical card.

Who is "blowing smoke"? You are NOT even a driver, only someone "doing research" and yet you know what every company out there is paying? I think you need to "research" in getting your CDL and start driving yourself. Right now, YOU are talking out of your arse.

Lou, do not listen to him, he IS NOT a driver, only a "researcher". There are jobs out there, that can pay you a very good weekly pay. Some are the LTL companies for instance.

As for the sleep apnea "stuff", DO NOT answer any questions that require a true or yes to any questions like, "do you take frequent naps during the day", or "do you feel tired during the day", so on and so forth. The DOT is not requiring sleep apnea testing just yet, but soon perhaps. Trucking companies are asking, and sometimes the health clinics are "taking surveys" as well. Stay away from answering "yes or true" to many questions.

I feel that if the DOT wanted to make this mandatory, then the trucking companies ought to pay for such testing, like they do with the pre-employment drug screening, and alcohol testing, and random drug testing, and post accident drug testing. Why should any of us have to pay to be tested, then turned down for a job?

The trucking companies may still hire one with a health concern, but in the end, they may also very well go with the healthier person first.

I been doing this crap now going on 20 years. I kinda have "some knowledge" of pay scales, and "testing", over someone who is "doing research".

Best thing you can do, and RIGHT NOW, is LOSE some weight! How much? Ask your doctor for what you "should be" for your height, age, etc.

    Thanks Tony,
I just got off the phone with a recruiter from Roehl, and after speaking with several different recruiters from (Prime,Swift,USA,CRST) I believe Roehl is the best choice for me. an average fo 2100-2300 miles a weeks at 30cpm. 10 days on 2 days off. more days on more days off (means more time with the fam) And the schooling/lodging is free (aside for transportation from hotel to school and food) as long as I drive for 120k in miles. All I need now is to study study study that cdl book and get my permit. looks like in a couple of months I'll be a bonafide trucker. The only thing that scares me is NYC :(

NYC can scare anyone..but then what about Dallas, Houston, Washington,DC, Boston, L.A., Chicago, Miami,??

In other words, a city is a city. when you can drive into and out of one, you can manage all of them. Yes, you will have white knuckles and sweats from nervousness, but you get over it.

    Best of luck to you.

    Lou,
Please visit the goroehl website and click on 'Apply Now.' You will find two links to Roehl's pre-work screening. At the bottom of each pre-work screening document are suggestions to help you prepare for the screening. Now is a good time to start preparing.

    Best of luck to you!

    DrtyDiesel Thanks this.
