I began the same way 53 years ago, when I was 7 years old they give me a ride in a concret mixer truck, I still remember the ride until this very day, I remember the sound of the engine (a French Berliet truck) the high of the tires, the sound of the exhaust and the brakes releasing the air, the smell of diesel and the air horn that i was aloud to pull a couple of times, everything did make such an impression on me, that I decided on this very day to be a truck driver when I grew up enough to be able to do it. Well, I began driving tractor trailers 10 years later at 17 years old in military service and haven't stop until today, 60 years old by now. Still is a hobby to me and i do still enjoy it like the first day i did 53 years ago. Will drive trucks even without compensation, just for the joy of it, and that is one of the things that have keep me doing it alone all those years when others have long ago stopped. Being one of the few fortunate enough to be making a living of something i do enjoy everyday and i only hope be healthy enough to keep doing it for as long as i can. When you do enjoy something as much as dreaming to do it, dont hesitate to pursuit your dreams and go for it. I do only hope that by the time you are ready to go, we will still have some trucks to be driven around.Blue jeans, Brownyjr36, brgrcru and 1 other person Thank this.

The only thing i got out of the last two pages here is
1: i never knew children were allowed to be members of this forum. That feels very wrong on many different levels.
And 2: some guy only made 27k last year in the best market we have seen in 30 years, yet somehow that's the industries fault. -
Ahh spyder quit complaining and im trying to learn stuff and i do know some stuff im not dumb
-
Besides im not sitting at home on the phone all day long.

Now back to owner operator numbers.
Now the national average is at 185,000 so figure 60k for fuel and 13k for insurance and lets say shes a good ol rig and you spent 5k on maintenance year total (maintenance cost are just a guess please correct me if im wrong) then we loose $$$ on taxes so let me go subtract around 30% taxes i figure thats on the high side (again please correct me if im wrong) now that comes to 51,500 and 2 you need to pay yourself so lets say 45k for that (let the company buy your vehicle and major expenses such as that plus thats a tax right off i believe. So after the 45k is subtracted the company is left with 6,500 $ now thats at the average so if u run flatbed or higher paying stuff then you and company make more.
