    Good deal.

Stay on this forum and keep us updated on how things go. You can start your own thread to document your progress. I do try to keep up on what's going on with our new folks, as do several others. You can draw on our experience and suggestions...bounce things off us that you may not understand, like why he does things the way he does. Out here is not like in the classroom.

Seemed to me he talked to driver services after thinking he was terminated and got his point across to them what was really going on. Good for him! I hope he follows Injun's advice and starts his own thread on the happenings in his training...and beyond.

I wonder why some mentors act like that towards students. One thing is to be strict, but another is to have no compassion for another human being. Don't worry dude, swift has alot of mentors that are good at their job (teaching), I had one like that, and ive met many others since I started. Remember, the world reflects the energy you put out, so stay positive.

It's been going so much better than the other mentors still. I did do a first though. I had to guide my mentor into the dock at walmart and stop traffic to back in. I did feel accomplished today. I was having trouble with a 90º alley dock. The mentor offered to do it. I said I would like to try it totally my way. She said ok, and I got it in the spot almost the first time. Had to do 1 pull up to get the trailer in line.

Oh a side note, I got wet today. Yes it rained, but I learned the windshield wasn't sealed properly so I got wet driving down the road lol. She sealed it up though so we are good to go.

Things are much better and she's gotten me a lot more comfortable. So today was a very good day imo. My first totally solo day, and we are running team now.

There are days where I could do a 90 blindside into a tight hole with one hand tied behind my back, and then others where I can barely straight back into a wide open spot. Think thats just the way it goes.

The simple fact is that being a good driver does not make one a good instructor or mentor. And because of the improvement in the economy and the related need for more drivers and mentors, there are many drivers in the mentor seat that aren't that experienced OR good. Many drivers just want to drive; the aggravation of having a series of second drivers in the confined space isn't worth the money they get - or lose. Many of those that choose to be mentors do it for the wrong reasons and their trainees' performance and learning suffer.

Good days are good. And your self-confidence is increasing which means you will have more good days. And that is good.

One thing to keep in mind when backing. No one out here is keeping score. It doesn't matter if it take you ten seconds or and hour to put it in a hole, the drivers on either side of you will actually appreciate that you took the time to do it right. No hood repairs and so on. :biggrin_25523:

I am happy for you that it's working out this time. Keep your chin up and your eyes on the road and good things will continue to happen.:biggrin_25525:
