One trick I used that helped was if we were waiting on a preplan or sittin for what ever reason. My mentor would let me practice backing in the truckstop usually. I would use the lines like it was 2 trucks I had to land between sometimes I would 90 or 45 which ever was toughest. Really made it better for me.

Good luck to you silent--hope it all turns out for you. Nothing is worse than having a bad mentor. I was quite lucky--i had a good guy. He was an excellent mentor with a great attitude.

Yea I can think of something worse! Having a bad mentor who smells so bad you have to spray him with Lysol when he gets out of the truck to fuel. Sprayed him as he was looking out the door to get out!

I met my first road angel apparently. I couldn't for the life of me back into a space at the DC and he(another swifty) helped me out way more than my mentors have and kept me calm. I managed to get it in. Then totally on my own, got backed in at a truck stop that was tight, like designed for 48ft'ers or something. I feel so accomplished now.

It doesn't matter ? Evidently you've never had the CB on at a fuel stop when trucks are backed up to the street because somebody simply lacks the basic driving skills needed to do the job .
I don't care who doesn't like hearing it . Anyone that can't back without problems when finishing at a CDL mill should just choose another career and give us all a break . They're just taking the seat of somebody that could do it right .

I've been out here almost five years. There are some days I have to GOAL so many times I look like a Jill-in-the-Box. If anyone thinks that means I lack skills, rather than just having a rough day, that's their problem.

None of us were perfect coming out the gate.

Nothing wrong with GOAL . I meant 4 or 5 pullups for a simple backing into a parking place or to a dock . One shipper I go to says they get out popcorn and pull up chairs to watch the show when a PTL driver shows up to back in the dock . Cheap rates include free entertainment .

Our O/P has been driving for a sum total of a week and a half, not including the week she spent on the backing range. No matter which school or training program anyone attends, every backing situation is not going to be faced. There is a big difference between using marker cones to judge from and backing into a slot with trucks all around.

If she didn't swap paint with anything, she did good.

who gives a #### if it takes four or five pullups to make it, Instead of being a jerk and making fun of the dude, maybe try helping them out? what may be simple for you may be hard for someone else, just like everything else in life, when you first start out you cant do it as well as someone that has been doing it for 25 years...treat others with respect and compassion..the old golden rule is still alive and well..
