I love reading this forum when I need information, want a little conversation of sorts, (still too new for much) let alone when I am bored. Which brings me to reading this post. :biggrin_25515:

I don't check the dates until I get really interested in the topic. My first reponse was going to be about my spouse deciding to try trucking as a career because it did pay better than his material handling/forklift driving job & it wasn't going to be as hard. (He's still testing the waters.) I was going to mention that he's been able to put into our account at least 400 a week, although most of his evening meals are at restaurants. Double that when I went with him. Although, I got the pot (coffee) going more often then he had since he started. Which could be a bad thing. Drink one down, make a pit stop...etc (We're still adjusting.)

:biggrin_2554:(looking sheepishly around) OOPS! now I know was talking to a banned member. I guess I should pay closer attention to the little dots! Reading the words "MIA (Banned or Retired)" should have been my first clue!!:smt095 Glad I read the "Who is WiseOne thread". At least one out of three strategies to get me to pay attention worked!

:sign3: Hope all went well for Mo & Gina!

Word on the street is that Mo & Gina are doing well, despite the best efforts of some folks who "gave them the business" when they were looking for help on the forum.

The one thing about communicating here or on any other written platform is that you lose all of the positives that make face to face communication so effective. I think that without body language, and inflection that maybe Gina was terribly misread. I believe that they were in some trouble, had been tossing it around a while and were looking for some advice from someone who had nothing at stake and nothing to loose.

So is Mo driving or did he choose to pursue other options?

Mo is on his way! Off to school at the moment. Things are going well.

You know, it is awfully hard to be misread and misunderstood and then try to make the person who misunderstood you or your intentions understand you. See -- the sentence alone is very confusing. I think that was a lot of the problem with their posts.

I know they are excited and happy. It is something he had thought about doing for a long time prior to their writing the forum - it was not their "answer" to a lot of problems, but a lifestyle change they were considering. She is a strong and dedicated woman who will stand behind him come what may and she is very excited for him. Doesn't mean it was an easy decision for either of them to make.

After all, who wants to choose between maintaining a decent life for the ones you love and getting to see them every day?

There is #### good money to be made as a trucker, just not in the first year. Plan on 30,000 to 35,000 the first year. If you can stick it out one year, you will see your income rise nicely. Few jobs offer a very nice jump in pay after just one year. That "one year of verifiable driving experience" seems to be the magic threshold.

Money wise 30-35k would be my best income ever and aside from 2 children me and my wife have a pretty clean slate and basic expenses (ie no credit cards).

It's all relative though I suppose. If I were ever to make 50k a year I probably would stick most of it away in CDs, Stocks, and Money Market accounts. My wife and I together have only ever made like 42k gross between us. 30-35k is a good start to me, but again that's relative...if I lived in DC or NYC I understand that would be a negligible amount.

I'll use the East of the Mississippi scale as the example:

    .26 to start, 3 months .27, 4 months .30, 6 months .33, 9 months .34, 1 year .35, 2 years .36, 3 years 37, 4 years .39, 5 years .41

This pay scale went into effect August 25, 2007

There are also monthly production bonuses (these are for solo drivers):

    9,500 miles - 50.00
    10,000 miles - 100.00
    10,500 miles - 150.00
    11,000 miles - 200.00
    11,500 miles - 250.00

And no, I'm not a recruiter. I'll be happy to PM my driver code to anyone who asks for it.
