As a total newbie I'd say you were pretty lucky to find that job. Usually gigs like that are wanting at least a year experience.
SOMEONE said it couldn't be done...

Yep, they required 2 yrs driving experience. So I know that I'm very, very fortunate to have been hired.

I wish all drivers on TTR a prosperous year but I think the O/P is counting his chickens before they are hatched. :smt117
truckon, pattyj, Hitman and 1 other person Thank this. -
Getting paid % will make you begin to understand the "owner" side of trucking allot sooner than being paid by the mile.
You'll begin to understand more and more that every "trip to the shop to swap"
( anything) deadhead to anywhere, breakdown, layover, etc. pays you NOTHING. If it ain't got a load on it, zip for pay.
I don't know of the OP's original post's and who told OP that it's a learning process and the learning NEVER ends. However, it is the attitude that others who've been there and "paid their dues" are more or less full of bull that will lead to a road full of "dang, didn't see that coming" moments.
I have never had many good things to say about "starting " or "training" companies except that perhaps some of the mistakes that a new driver can and will make can be forgiven and fixed. A GOOD trainer will help a new driver learn some basic MAP READING & Routing skills.
It's always good when a new driver lands a job.
Good when a new driver can stay focused and keep their spirits about the job high.
Bad when they begin to believe that those who know, don't know squat.
Anything can happen to anyone at anytime. Good and Bad.windsmith Thanks this. -
ok so what's your secret why they hired you?Is it your good looks and charm, lol.I don't know what you look like but good looks can go along way.

Me too, noone can possibly know what a company is like only after a couple weeks of driving for them.rookietrucker Thanks this.

Yep, First six months is the hardest but the first year for a newbie is a learning curve for most of them. It's possible to make 50k but it's too early for the OP to make such a prediction. Too many variables that play in the equation. IMO

I love how everyone classifies those that go with "bottom feeder" companies as blind sheep or gullible idiots. I'm going with one of those companies because my local school wants $5k cash. I've worked all of my life and raised 2 college bound kids but my corrections officer job doesn't pay enough and it's time to move on. I was told to come up with the cash or quit my job for 6 months and go the welfare to work route and let the govt pay the bill. I'm too proud to take a handout and to broke to write a check for 5k. I'm not gullible and not a sheep. I'm going in a skeptic and working my rear off for a year knowing that hard work will pay off. Going to a bottom feeder may net me less money the first year but I'll be just as qualified as the rest.GMCTtrucks and Buni Thank this.
