generally speaking, most of them DO go in with stars in their eyes and completely unschooled and unaware they are being taken by a used car salesman from the word go. i was in a class full of them. only about 3 out of the 24 of us had done our homework before jumping in with both feet or had a real clue or expectation or skeptical outlook on what we were going into.....the rest had big dreams, unrealistic expectations, and really believed they would make what the weiner (or insert other recruiter) told them they would make first year......or about the hometime, equipment, conditions, or anything else.....most ridiculous thing of all was we had a former weiner driver in the class doing a refresher telling these folks that bought it hook line and sinker how things really were but they didn't believe it could really be like he said it was lol....and went there anyway.....last i heard they had already quit.....some you can tell the sky is blue but don't believe it until they walk outside and see it anyway
there are always exceptions......glad to see you're one of them......
i didn't write a check for 5k either......only cost me $854.......true, i had to pay it up front, but it also bought me an outstanding state-sponsored school, way more than a 3 week crash course, and multiple, and locally based, options in hiring.
best of luck to you .......and really hope you make it to that first year wherever you go...... -
ok tell ur bos get another truck i wanna come over there

Give the guy a break. He's new and excited.
Personally, small companies wiith a newbie owner would scare me. For now I'll stck to getting paid for deadheading, getting paid on payday and not worrying about if someone is going to repo the truck I'm driving.
I wish the OP luck. Just remember to have a plan B. -

So far, I've had no issues - he's a straight up guy, and the carrier isn't the only business that he owns and operates. -
All I said was that I'm on track for $55K for the year. It's a good start, and I know there will be better weeks and there will be worse weeks.
It's not per mile pay, it's a flat percentage of line haul that's paid to the truck per load. He sends me the rate confirmation sheets from the brokers.
And yes, I will continue to update this thread as time goes on. -
Eaton18 Thanks this.
