One of the things that I find so frustrating about some discussions such as these is that it devolves intostrictly a letter of the law evaluation but sometimes it is helpful to backup and consider what the ethical framework should be as well
Something to think about!

I am 6' 2", I played HS football as a starting weakside linebacker. I never really worried much about my safety because of this. During my active time driving, I kept a small hammer and a tire "thumper" just behind my seat! I also had an old one on the other side too. If I came down those steps because of some dummy trust me, I had that "thumper" ready to swing. Today I am mostly homebound and in a wheelchair. Until this past summer I was out walking and unless I was headed to the VA Hospital I was armed AND had my WASP knife. I still believe in close quarters that knife would be more effective than a firearm.
With the above said I want to get back to the point of this thread. The Federal Government needs to get involved with protecting duly licensed carry when they are operating interstate. Because of article IV (1) of the constitution AND the interstate commerce clause, they MUST do so. The issue of searching and private property is really not part of this. You will find this to be a problem even at home. I carried for a while way back when. I carried until a DOT officer asked me if I had a firearm and I said I did. he told me in the most friendly way to take it home and leave it. I also made a delivery at Ft Gordon and was asked then about this. They allowed me in but asked me to store the weapon in their locker while on the post. I just decided to carry was not worth all the hassle and stopped. -

While pensacola was a sad state of affairs, it was not near as bad as the one in Texas, and that one was a citizen that turned jihad, and an active duty member of the military to boot. You just never know who is going to go postal.
When I ran otr before I started running through Canada I always had a hand gun in the truck, yes it could have caused problems, but the percentages were in my favor, in my way of thinking. I have so far never needed one, but if a guy does, there is just no replacement for one.
As far as carrying on a base. I had them tell me an antique broad axe I had bought at a swap meet was a weapon and would not let me enter the base with it. lol
I ask them if I looked dumb enough to attack the US army with a hatchet. lolLast edited: Dec 18, 2019

Maryland is very difficult with their little out of state and instate residental license carry process. You have to have connections and in addition prostrate yourself as a victim to maybe get this license. They honor NO one and no other state. Other than LEOUSA.
If you had guns at home in Maryland and most of us living there do, some dont by choice and use it in home defense, you lost the weapons and you will be prosecuted for it.
Here in Arkansas we are a free state compared to Maryland. And it's pretty nice here. due to a certain act that was passed several years ago it's not really needed to have a CHL on you these days, a semi open carry provided you show no intent. In addition to that some of our schools are armed with students every day for the first time in our state. It will be a very stupid and dead bad guy should they try to shoot the school, church, college etc.
I love Maryland for being a old Home ground. However they have not changed in 60+ years and never will. So that takes care of them as far as I am concerned. I don't worry about it. Half the stuff we do here in the south is illegal up there anyway we have been living here too long to try and re-adapt back to the mentality of being sheep. -
As far as buying a hand gun in Florida you don’t need the course or a permit.
To by a hand gun in Florida you must be a resident and you must pass a federal background check and there is a three day cooling off period before you can pick it up and you can’t carry concealed.
If you are a resident or non resident of Florida and you want a concealed weapons permit you must take the course which includes some minimal live fire requirements.
The NY permit is whole different animal.
You must be a resident and take a course ( with out any live fire requirement) then submit an application to your county sheriffs office, pass a background check and then be interviewed and signed off on by a county judge.
If the judge oks you you will most likely get a “restricted sportsman only “ permit and you can not conceal carry with that permit.
To get an unrestricted concealed carry permit in ny now is becoming almost impossible to get.FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
I like the requirements we have to carry concealed.
You have to beg borrow or buy a hand gun then stick in in a holster or pocket. nuff said. lol
We do have concealed carry permits a guy can get, but the only advantage is they they are good in something like 33 other states, but you have to fly out to take your hand gun with you anyway, no driving to another state with one.
We also have pretty much common sense laws about when you can or can not use said firearm.Razorwyr and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
