This was a short week for us because we couldn’t work Monday
    1) Davenport iowa to Benson NC , we arrived at 5 1/2 hours early, unloaded us right away
2)Benson to Weldon NC for reload. 6 hours early, no problem, they loaded us right up
    3) NC to Champaign Illinois, (1st delivery) our dispatch had arranged for a 7 AM delivery because third shift didn’t unload where we were going. We checked in at 3 AM anyway and they said.” We’ll unload you right away!”

    4) Illinois to new Berlin WI, (2nd delivery) 10 hrs early again… unloaded right away

    5) 30 miles to reload in Sturtevant Wi. Probably my most challenging dock yet Because of backing in off of a street with traffic and landscaping boulders, keeping the cab from being able to get around in front of the trailer, coupled with tight dock spacing. My wife spotted me with a headset And we got it in Without rubbing anything.

    6) Wi to Davenport Ia just a drop and hook for a new load

7)Davenport, Iowa to Lexington, Nebraska, unloaded and reloaded at the same place

    8) Nebraska back to Davenport, Iowa

3550 miles in 4 days with 7 stops. Not too shabby:).

One thing I’ve learned over the last few months is that if dispatch tells you you won’t be able to load or unload until a certain time it never hurts to show up early and walk in. Be polite and give them an opportunity to tell you yes or no. it doesn’t always work but it’s amazing how many times it does.

It also depends on where you’re at in the country. Up in the Midwest up through Wisconsin, Iowa, all up in and around those areas. I found great success in getting loaded or unloaded early. Places in the Northeast, Southeast,? Forget about it. That’s been my experience. But it never hurts to ask and like you said, if you’re polite, sometimes they’ll work in right there.

At least ALWAYS CALL the shipper & receivers to verify the appointment time (especially if one of them is on a possible holiday). During that call ask if showing up early is acceptable. At some customers showing up early is such a problem they will tell you right away not to do it.

I remember reading about someone that called a customer to see if they could deliver early and the customer said yes. I think it was scheduled for Monday and they got in on a Friday, but they ended up charging the company for storage or something. If you show up early, make sure that everyone in the process is on board with it.

Days early is different than a few hours early, IMO. When you call always speak to the shipping/receiving supervisor. The answer from whatever Joe Schmoe that answers the phone is not reliable. Make sure when you ask the question that the person you are asking knows the original appointment time and your ETA so their answer is informed. "My appointment time is Mon at 6am your time, and I can be there Friday at 1530 your time." If you ask can I show up early, and you are thinking of 45 minutes early and the supervisor is thinking 5 minutes early, the answer you get may not apply to you when you arrive.

I always said, you can either wait at the truckstop, or wait at the customer. You MIGHT get unloaded/loaded early at the customer. You WON'T get unloaded/loaded at the truckstop.
    Good job.
