Currently I work at Estes express but lately things have taken a turn. Been here for over 2.5 yrs and have been looking at other ltl carriers in Columbus. I had an interview with abf Monday and FedEx freight called me today. My question is which is better for the long haul because I want to retire from my next company. I'm a city driver and understand I will at the bottom for awhile. Abf is union, but I'm a little Leary because what may happen with the new contract.....but they have a pension and no cost benefits and overtime. Estes is good pay, benefits are ok but no o.t. FedEx freight is non union, pay is less than Estes, but ot.
i need help here folks. I know this is a personal decision but I do rely on my fellow drivers to tell me all the good and bad of these company's. only way to get the best answer is to ask a trucker. Thanks
Soo many ltl choices.....

Id go with ABF, FDX keeps cutting back and will make you starve

Appreciate that. Does make me little nervous when I hear urchin MAY try to purchase them thou.....plus the vacation thing and the decrease in wages. But if they never touch the pension........

double post

There's another opening for upsf for a full time road driver.....but I'm not sure if your home everyday or if that's otr

We got a 15% cut in our paychecks every week, guys gave up a week of vacation. YRC is looking to purchase them as well.

Im not too sure about UPSF road drivers. I know for Old dominion, Estes, YRC and ABF the road drivers may have to do layovers, where they send you to a hotel. UPSF is good, highest paid LTL but those trucks are wired from front to back. They can tell if you dont have your seatbelt on before starting etc.
-
That stuff don't bother me. I'm a pretty cautious driver and never put it in gear with out my belt on........so you recommend abf and upsf is it home daily?

*if its home daily

Layover isnt too bad, they put you in hotel rooms. You will make more money doing line-haul vs P/D.
