Just apply, majority of LTL will take on less experience then required

They usually want at least a year and doubles experience. YRC might take you though. They seem like one of the easiest to get on with.

YRC can be fussy though... but will take if needed. Con-Way freight is easy to get on with, they normally take anyone with a license or beating pulse. Some YRC terminals like that as well

Linehaul with UPSF is generally home every night. I worked for them, but, didn't like having to do dock work. Being the bottom guy I had to cover guys vacations who were running to the HUBs and stripping and loading trailers. If you were a city guy then you probably wouldn't mind it.
I used to run Linehaul with Estes. I had over 400 hours of unpaid waiting time in one year and you are out for the week if you are on the extraboard.
At YRC you get paid for everything, and, if you don't get called off rest on ten you get paid after 13 or 14 hours depending on your local supplement.

So, when someone asks me union LTL or Non it's a no brainer. I have worked both and the union Co's are much better to work for in the long run.

Why do a lot of ltl companies require a tanker endorsement? I can't say if ever seen them have a tanker trailer?

@bubbadog its 12 hours at my terminal. Normally they call you right then. If your getting paid for a layover your called right on the 8th hour to be ready on the 10th. Only one time I went to a satellite terminal and when I called to arrive myself the coordinator said, theres no point to keep you there all day tomorrow so be ready right on rest and call for instructions. He told me ahead of time what time to be at the terminal. And I will agree with the whole U vs Non u companies. BIG difference, although some of the non-u's are pretty decent, smaller companies by me drivers are VERY VERY happy. I prefer the union mainly for job security, and for pensions... I dont abuse it though like some of these guys do but theyve been doing this for 25+ years so to me it seems like its whatever

@chadastrophic We have these big containers that are filled with liquid, and over a certain amount of gallons you need the tanker endorsement. Yes we never pull tankers but like I said we haul liquid containers inside our traiers. They are these big crates normally with flammable all over it

It's really annoying that a lot of these ltl companies are putting linehaul drivers on the dock now. That was unheard of when I started, even at the non union carriers.

I hope YRC never makes us do that. I hated doing that

I didn't know what a pup was when I applied. Got calls from all of them. It was pretty much my choice where I wanted to work. Then I was pulling pups. Just acted like I knew what I was doing. Common sense I guess but some don't have it so don't rely on it. Not saying I'm smart, its just common sense

Ain't never worked the dock. Doubt I ever will. That was the deciding factor of my choice with Big E. I'm a lazy ltl driver. I don't do nothing but drive. That's my profession
