Glad I gave up the trucking business and sold the trucks and trailers. I now work 8 hours a day no stress. Left alone and just rebuild hydraulics and transmissions and engines for Toyota Industrial. Took an adjustment for sure. But forklifts are needed and #### near recession proof. 70k a year and fully paid benefits. Yeah I left trucking and never looking back. 33+ years running my own trucks and the aggravation and stress. No I miss it like being in a fire fight

I've been sitting the past 3 days.
Not one single call on my posted truck this whole time either.

Somehow it's still getting worse out here.

    When do rates get better?

Speaking strictly from an economics point of view....I would respectfully submit....that rates will improve after either (or especially both) of the following occur:

    • When freight capacity balances out much better with freight demand, and/or --
    • When those dictating economic policy/decisions are replaced with others who have much better business savvy and expertise (i.e., better business conditions = more freight, & better rates)
    Basically...it's a "plumbing" problem.....:Monkey wrench:

Too many business decision-makers now have their cranium deeply misplaced in a contortion that is normally otherwise considered anatomically quite impossible (and yet it has apparently happened anyway ).

The above also explains to a considerable degree what has gone wrong over time with Yellow Freight.

When the above-described problem is effectively remedied -- rates will normalize, & all will be well again...:sunny:

That'll never happen. I mean never say never but seriously it's doubtful. It's a private carrier. They're not chasing freight. The trucks are just a means to an end. Kind of like what my grandfather said 30 years ago when I said I wanted to own a truck one day. He said the trucking business hauling freight for money was hard and he was right. I had no idea what he meant at the time. He trucked but he was hauling his own melons, hay and wheat straw he raised/cut/baled to buyers that he found. On handshake deals. Made a killing doing that in addition to holding down a full time job and running the farm raising wheat, corn, soybeans and beef cattle. The truck was just a useful tool. His produce, hay and straw was the moneymaker. He never had any backhauls or anything of that sort.

I’m currently deadheading 1250 miles from WY to Laredo. I struggled so hard to get a load it wasn’t even funny. I had one for $1.28 a mile that canceled on me. I saw a load from WY to TX that was $800 and it booked in 1 minute before I could call.

If it wasn’t for my customer in Laredo that pays $5k for 1200 miles I don’t know where I’d be. I also had a good contact for John Deere and the rates have dropped so low it’s not even believable.

But reefer is a headache and you’re so glad you left it…. Any one can buy a cheap deck and start hauling, that works against you. How many can do LTL ice cream in TX and LA in the summer? I had my reefer shop modify my unit to crank out more performance out of my X4 to handle it. You got to be aggressive and use what God gave you. The easy path leads to doom.
