And then turn the radio up loud enough so you can hear it above the roar and make it really loud!
The truck is quiet when no load (flat and empty trailer), but under power with engine fan kicked in and you really notice it. I have worn ear plugs daily for years. maybe noise cancelling headphones are better, I don’t know.

Try higher than that.
I am deaf. I need upwards of 80 db to 130+ db to take in sound of sufficient quality to work with. Live Fire Artillery in NSSA, Fort Shenandoah is 140+ db. And even I wear hearing aides as ear protection there in Winchester VA.
Noise, vibration and a number of other associated physical input against the body inflicts damage over time when exposed to it long enough. -
Wow. A quiet Volvo epa truck is too loud????
Not sure you would have made it back in the 70’s or 80’s fella. Just saying.
I always thought my 8” straight pipes were too quiet to be honestHoneyBadger67 Thanks this. -

Nothing cool about being deaf that’s for sure.

Remember the days when there were men in the world that didn't whine (about everything) when their trucks grunted while doing work?
Seriously, you say the noise is only elevated when going up a hill. So...stay out of the mountains and you'll be golden. You might not even smoke the brakes...again. -

Remember when coal miners would just die of black lung without complaining and not need Personal protective equipment? Ah the good old days.

Complete opposite sides of a spectrum, but okay -
Tinnitus.
Hard to fall asleep without some other sound to drown out the ringing. Music or a movie.
I don't think there is a cure, the damage is done.
