We even carried a spare landing gear crank to replace the ones bent up cause previous driver left it extended as a "favor" and it got snagged by a icc bumper.

Especially carry bolt cutters and a 3" 5/16 bolt and nut and some washers....grrrr,

First thing on my list of major purchases is a pair of prescription sunglasses for distance vision. I had a pair, but not only did the frames melt enough to bend out of shape and break (they had been discontinued by then and replacing the frame with the old lenses was not possible), but my prescription actually changed anyway.

Heh. I actually made Eagle Scout right after my 16th birthday. Almost three decades ago.....*shudder*

I carry a 120 lumen LED flashlight in a holster on my belt right next to my Leatherman, and my concealed carry firearm on the other side.....*GRIN*

Also in my kit I have about 20'-25' of 550 paracord, a first aid kit capable of treating anything from a finger boo-boo to a GSW (I even have a military tourniquet, just in case of a serious wreck ), emergency blanket, and some other supplies. Anyone wanting a more detailed list and/or questions about my EDC bag etc. feel free to PM me.

Also, get some bungee cords (the good rubber kind, not the cheap nylon covered ones) and any signage you might need (ie- if your hauling a flat, RGN, etc. and need oversize signs, flags, lights, etc.)
    I'm sure I'm forgetting something......LOL

I made Eagle Scout just before my 16th birthday. My parents warned me about how your priorities change after 16 so I got it done first. Just get the basics, you will acquire more as you need it after being out here for a bit. If you go through every list on this site and carry everything that somebody says is a must have you will have 80,000 lbs of junk

I'll also carry "retired" t-shirts, cut down into smaller pieces to use as rags... Replaced with new shirts bought on the road to wear as needed.

Just to clarify.....Didn't mean to imply anything that I carry/listed is a must. Just an idea of what I carry that works for me. Of course, everyone has wildly varying ideas of what should or shouldn't be included in a big truck's equipment. This is just what works for me. Nothing more, nothing less.

BTW- nice to hear of a fellow Eagle on here. Right on driver!

(ponders idea for new Eagle thread/poll)

    Really?

Using a truckers atlas (not one you picked up at the local gas station for $10) is a MUST. Sure, plug the locations in your GPS. But ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS (did I say ALWAYS?) verify your route with your atlas and adjust accordingly.

Otherwise, we will be reading about you one day. Stuck under a low clearance bridge. Or on here asking how best to handle a ticket for being on a restricted route. Or worse.

Why? Not bashing, just wondering. Only time I've seen that necessary was going into a container/intermodal yard.
