I heard at Conway, they make drivers work on the dock? Is that true. At SEFL Drivers just drive, unless they want to work the dock for extra money.

Working the dock is not optional at ConWay but most guys fight for the oppertunity to work it for the extra money. Being a new guy I realley didn't know how to pack frieght and realley wasn't an asset to the the Frieght Supervisor so didn't get to work it to much. Of course the one of the few times I did get to work it I had something to that night go figure

Oh in Alanta I am sure they make those guys work the dock , I don't see what differance it makes since you get paid the same to work the dock as you do to drive

I head from some guys, they make the road drivers work the dock, is that true also? At sefl, only combo drivers work the dock. And if you don't want too, you just get fewer hours.

I don't work for SEFL but my daughter works at the corporate office in Lexington, SC and is quite happy there. The only SEFL driver I have semi regular contact with is rabidly 'anti union' and has little constructive to say to me as a result - he admitted he's never held membership in a union.

Just the fact that I'm a union member and pro union made him an instant antagonist. No, I didn't advocate SEFL employees request IBT representation. On the other hand, not a bad idea either since uniformity across the LTL segment would benefit everyone.:biggrin_2558:

I am neither pro union or anti union but I see what is happening to Roadway and Yellow. I think they will be out of the LTL bussiness shortly. I know holland has folded here in South GA and don't see Yellow or Roadway hanging out much longer.

Sadly, the good pay - benefits - work rules the labor unions fought long and hard for may very well disappear. 'Deregulation' created an 'anything goes' environment. I recall the 'promises' of the CDL program...:biggrin_25513:
