I've heard all the same type of things here in Atlanta, and where I know many teamsters in the Boston area. That is why when I originally was planning on becoming a truck driver, I applied at a Union company. Like you said, this was all before the "crash!"
Your right, 401ks did take a beating , but all if not most have fully recovered. Just like the stock market has. When the market is down as long as you keep investing, you won't loose any money, as a matter of fact, you make more money in the long haul because when the market is down, you are buying at a discounted rate. When the market rebounds, all those shares you bought at a discount are now worth a lot more! The only people that still lost money are those that freaked out and took there money and ran.
Since you mentioned it, we make $22 hr in the city, and 53 cents a mile on the road.

i have a phsical tommorow and getting my doubles end. i am coming on as a combo driver working the night shift. either 5-1 or 1-9. i do not mind this because once p+d comes up i would get first shot at it. can you tell me how the test drive and skills test are. sefl seems really family oriented. now you explained that you can get extra hours. how often and how many do you usally get. if you do mind asking how much did you make last year

sorry in the south they just do not work. they either get laid off or start striking for any reason. employers no longer can afford to pay for the unions greed.

I think the point I was trying to make is if a driver is making over $22 an hour and is told to work the dock, and crys about it he is a sissy.
