Not everybody who runs more power than legally allowed is an idiot. After running 10m radios, I will never run a box stock 11m again. Example...two mexicans pulled lff a side street and hit the side of my loaded cow wagon on a two-lane highway...no cell phone signal, nothing. I got on the radio, and hollered for someone to help me, and they called the sheriff, and the emt/fire trucks. It was about 10-15 miles in either direction to the nearest anything. I managed to aactually get another driver who was a good ways away, to call the police for me. All of those rolling hills and thick trees out where I was, would have been dang near impossible to be heard through, with a little 4 watt radio. Especially, when you consider most guys run with the squelch way up, or the volume way down, sometimes that extra power will help punch your way through.

IF life is indanger and no other means will work the FCC rules allow the use of what ever power/frequencys are needed .... BUT it is very limited .... EXAMPLE 97.403 ..... IF you can show this was the case it is allowed in ANY radio service ....

This is why I'd rather have my service done in real time while I'm present.

I have had several PM's from users about the contact information for the COP in Westville, IL were the shack is located. The COP is really a nice guy who genuinely showed concern for the matter. This is his contact information from the Westville, IL website: Chief Dave Booe (217)304-7814. That is his cell and he usually answers. Sorry for taking some time getting back, but I was on Lake Michigan doing a little salmon fishing. If my issue had not been resolved I would have made my trip home via Westville, and knocked on a few doors. At any rate, I have really cooled down about all of this, but I know what it is like for the rest of you. As I have said before, Sparky tell your loyal customers and new ones what is going on! That is all it would take. They would rather hear you are closing than nothing at all. Good luck fellas!

    o2much4me Thanks this.

JJD, I almost spit my soda out when I read your reply I was laughing so hard! No offense Bruce, and I like your hard facts when you post, you know your FCC rules...I appreciate that sincerely. In the immortal words of Larry the Cable Guy, "That's some funny stuff, I don't care who you are."

JJD, I used you as a referral on the clown forum...didn't think you would mind.

FCC police are the very last things I am worried about. Millions of big radios running around to keep them busy. And honedtly, the base station guys are the biggest nuisance, no courtesy, running their mouths about worldwide this or that, when in reality most are city wide at best.

Not a problem...I've been on the Clowns Forum since day-one...It's not a bad Forum really...main thing I like about it, is the Sponsors links...

And since that Forum is a family-safe site, you don't have to worry about what might pop-up in some threads when the kid-o's are standing right behind you...
