SPD (Smokey Point Dist.)

The workers comp this is unique to Washington state. According to a google search Washington is the only state where the employees and the employer split the cost of workers comp insurance equally.

The salary program is becoming rather complicated and I’m glad I’m not on it honestly. I’ll take my mileage pay plus extras and keep it simple. I can manage my money well enough to deal with the pay fluctuations and prefer to not have a huge bonus at the end of the year.

How long do you guys at SPD usually stay out for?

 

To the tune of $130 - $150 off the top per paycheck. It wasn’t ever disclosed on the settlement or the pay sheet. They never told me straight out that they were doing that. Something to hide for sure. *Beware* “New Hire Expense Reimbursement” even past the 90 day probation period. $750.00 plus.....

 

Everything is shown on the adp settlement. I paid 5700 in “workers comp” according to my settlement. I’m not sure what exactly was happening in your situation but I very highly doubt someone was skimming pay off the top of you pay check.

I think I’m out of the “new hire” window since I’ve been here over 5 years now.

 

Nothing to "Beware" of, unless you're someone special I'm betting you signed documents before you were ever sent a plane ticket that said if you leave in the first 6 MONTHS that new hire expenses can be withheld from your final paycheck.

SPD is a publicly traded company, we are subject to continuous audits by independent auditing firms so I can assure you NO ONE was skimming ANYTHING from your checks. Everything withheld from your paycheck is documented on the paycheck stub from ADP every pay period. The "settlement sheet" has nothing to do with your paycheck and withholding's, it's a rundown of trips you're being paid for on that pay period. Does not reflect anything as far as tax withholding, medical expenses, reimbursements, FMLA insurance (a Washington thing) etc. The bottom line of that settlement sheet is YOUR GROSS pay, not your net (take-home).

As @kylefitzy said, happy you found someplace with greener pastures. For anyone else questioning pay, settlements or how SPD handles things, I've NEVER hid my paychecks and in fact you can go way back on my posts right here on this forum and see settlements and paychecks of mine. I'll gladly lay out my last year of settlements and paychecks as a driver to anyone who would like to look at them. SPD has nothing to hide and I have nothing to hide. Now if you want a shock, I'll lay out my paychecks since moving to management and show you what a 50% cut in pay looks like.

 

Hey so what was your average time out on the road be for you went home.

 

To stay on the salary program you have to work 24 days a month.

 

Its All over the board here. You have to be available 24 days of the month to receive the 6 cent performance bonus or stay on the salary program.

That being said we are a coast to coast carrier and wanting to go home all the time puts a kink in getting all the miles you can. I personally run for about 6 weeks before wanting some time of but I can usually swing through the house for a day or two in the 6 weeks. That’s one of the great parts about living in a central location. If there are loads to run I generally will stay out unless I NEED to be home for something.

On the mileage based program you can really take off for how ever long you want. I’ve never heard anyone say “for every week you’re out you earn X amount of days at home”. This summer I took 16 or 18 days off in a row to go on vacation. You’re mileage may very though.

 

I did mostly large OD loads aka "The Wing Team" and there was no "average", might be out a week, might be on one load for 2+ months. I have guys running for me now that are by the house every couple weeks and others that stay out for a couple months.
