How tight is an electric drill going to get the chain.?
    Better with an impact.?

Also our trucks got an air compressor. I can't be the only one who has a 1/4" quick connect on one of the air tanks to run pneumatic tools..?

Didn't like it at all till Six mentioned times when you can't swing the binder handle. Great point..

Out of all the things that I've seen for the open deck world, this is the one that interested me the most

Problem is, they never made them for the bigger chain. I don't carry 5/16 dog chain. I figured out that you can use a big clevis to choke down a load, strap or chain. I don't carry structural steel much anymore, but some times, on those loads, there will be pieces that are "loose" in the middle of a bundle. To prevent them from shifting, you can choke the bundle.

I saw that one posted in here somewhere, it immediately reminded me of all the mixed steel loads from PDM in North Vegas, and all the rebar from CMC. Had I known of it at the time, it would have helped alot. Chokers on rebar are always tighter on one side or the other. I typically compensated by putting two binders right on top of the bundle on the wider ones. Or one on each side for narrower bundles.

And I did catch that nifty clevis trick somewhere in here. Which resulted in my rack getting just a bit heavier. ;)

The Site says they are working on a 4inch strap version, which I would certainly buy a few of those if they do.

Comes in handy too for loads of pipe spool (smaller clevis and 1 inch straps). Used to run pipe spools all the time years ago. Hate them. It takes ALL DAY usually to unload. But some times, the money gets to be stupid and I have to take them.

I use them daily I am in their sales add I got no compensation for it. Ok I’m a steel hauler they do not back off for the entire trip a 3 speed 1/2 dewalt drill set on truque chuck setting 100 will give you 6000 lbs of tie down force I had the binder tested at a rigging supply company these are all I use I haul multiple loads a day and they save me time they do what they say they will. They are built from manual slack adjusters

Could you run a smaller drive impact off your emergency air, like a 3/8 drive?

Why not just use a cordless impact. My 1/2 inch Milwaukee puts out as much torque as an air impact and the battery life is amazing.

a buddy of mine carried air tools to run off his truck, they work ok for a few minutes but the lack of air reserve volume is an issue. that and your truck air compressor is nowhere near the CFM of a shop compressor...it takes several minutes to build up air and is depleted quickly. electric impact is far more efficient if you have a few spare batteries and an inverter to keep them charged.

We’re talking 3/8 drive here. Not 3/4 or 1 inch drive. Truck will run small stuff fine
