I'll go a step further and suggest we all camp out in the right lane, bumper to bumper in every metropolitan area. Then sit and watch as the general public can't figure out how to merge onto a highway.

There was one good thing in that article that shouldn’t be overlooked. A test for anyone wanting to become a motor carrier.

gokiddogo and Short Fuse EOD Thank this.

How about 55 nationwide for everybody?? As it was for several years. Lets see, didn't it start somewhere around '74 went on until some time during the mid 80s? I know it happened under Nixon and Reagan came along and left it up to each state.

Started in ‘74 due oil embargo...shortages etc
My fuzzy memory thinks it became a state’s decision around ‘85-86

I think the general public would have a meltdown if it applies to them too.

The truck I drive would certainly never see top gear again. :biggrin_25523:

Nail on the head... in the coffin.
The ata wants it, they pay enough in campaign donations to get what they want, theyll get it just like they got the elog mandate

"Chris Spear, president of the American Trucking Associations (ATA), said his organization approves of speed limiters."

    I was think'n it started in 72.. maybe it was 74 ..
I know Sammy Hagar relased the song ..I can't drive 55 ..in 84
And your right I think it became the states decision in 85 I think but it took a couple years for some states to raise it
And early on it seem like alot of states only raised it for automobiles
