Terrible Idea. My truck isnt limited but getting stuck behind a pack of trucks stuck at 62 is miserable. I usually run just faster than company trucks but slower than the super truckers

This makes it really tough to pass someone on a two lane highway. Which is almost all I ever drive on. Sometimes you catch up to someone going 85 kph (53 mph) in a 100 kph (62 mph) zone, so I pull out to pass and suddenly they remember the speed limit. So I give up and they slow all they way back down. So I go to pass again and they speed up again, but this time I wind it up to 120 kph (75 mph) and blow on by. But being limited to 105 kph (65 mph) would mean I'd be stuck behind an 85 kph car.

It's normally not the slow car that's the issue .. It's the idiot truck driver who runs it up to the limiter while you try to pass ..I ran Winnipeg to Montreal weekly for 10 plus years but gave up a good run because I can't deal with being put on the shoulder by 2 oncoming trucks side by side and both too stupid to back out of it .. Ontario is putting a spin on the safety numbers to maintain the idea limiters are safer ... Any trucker who has been running for awhile will tell you they had more close calls then ever before ..

Just because you are happy with it doesn't mean everybody is like you. For instance, you might be fine with a load of crap in your pants, that doesn't mean everybody will be.HeWhoMustNotBeNamed, OOwannaBE, scottied67 and 6 others Thank this.

Most accidents occur at lower speeds, so speed limiters won't do anything to help reduce accidents. The problem is not speed but the driver behind the wheel. I see so many drivers speeding through work zones with reduced speeds. A number of studies have been done and all of them say that roads are safer when vehicles can move at the same speed. Split speeds actually make roads less safe. The speed limiter legislation is being pushed by major carriers who cannot compete with independents and smaller fleets who usually don't have speed limiters on their trucks or have their speed set at higher levels than the mega carriers. My trucks will bury the speedometer, but I rarely run over 60-65 mph. Like others, I want to be able to bump up my speed if I get into a bad situation or to get ahead of a bottleneck in traffic. I don't want every aspect of my life controlled by a competitor or some bureaucrat. I was talking to another trucker a couple of days ago. Both of us agreed that we see more accidents today than 30 or 40 years ago. Back then, there were many trucks that would do triple digits, yet there were fewer accidents. Limiting speed will not reduce accidents.
oicu812 Thanks this. -
Yep I can vouch for that, I ran into a bunch last week who were texting and driving their trucks, don't mind to name the companies - Estes, Aunti Mimes, Fedex and some local company hauling dirt. The Aunti Mimes driver looked like a bobble head and I was getting mad at him for weaving and slowing down/speeding up without looking.
Can you explain a legit reason to go faster in a bad road situation? I mean the truck doesn't accelerate like a Porsche or a Ferrari.
My biggest complaint with Canadian drivers is that limiter isn't set right. I get passed when I'm in my car doing 67 or 70 by Canadian drivers. What floors me is this thing that they need to speed, even doing 70 on a 55 mph road. -
The good folks at ATA and other folks of that ilk know that and when they get caught they try to shift focus to the severity of accidents and back and forth.i wis ATA would go away.they have general public fooled into believing they represent trucking companies in general but in reality only a very small percentageG/MAN Thanks this.
-
You are correct. The ATA only represents a very small percentage of trucking companies in this country. They primarily represent the largest carriers, which is about 10% of the motor carriers. They don't represent the other 90%. -
If only we had an organization that represented our viewpoints on pending legislation. The Teamsters, OOIDA, and NASTC are telling everyone they do but I think they each have their own agenda.

You want to know what it will be like? It will be CA on steroids!
Look how effed up their traffic situation is, 55mph truck speed limit, trucks regulated to the right 2 lanes, it's just a cluster.
