Really for my operation it has nothing to do with maximizing miles. I run very few miles annually about 60,000. Average length of haul is around 380 miles.

It's not about the why's. There is no need for anyone to explain or justify why they want an ungoverned truck.

Being that speeding big trucks is a non existent issue out here the only conclusion is this is an issue of control. Do I have control over my operation or not?

You can point to a LOT more instances of the 14 hour rule and EOBR playing a role in truck crashes than you can speed.

The proposed rule has nothing to do with safety. It is being masquaraded as such. It is part of a multi step plan on the part of the ATA to get certain legislative changes to benefit their largest members. Trucker News covered one last week, 33' doubles. Another one is a third axle on trailers grossing 97k. The speed limiter thing is their way to address the 100%+ turnover rate of the mega carriers. No difference, no need to quit a mega after you gain 2 years of experience, which is why they continously hemorrhage drivers.
Not that hard to understand. Effective lobbying, lets see if opposing sources can thwart the effort.

Nah, from what I read on here they jump from one mega to another, and quite often end up back at the first one.

Good idea. I have the software to do that on my truck. I could alter the tire sizes, or the rear end ratio.

I'm sure the DOT would like to know how you covered 750 miles in 10 hrs in a truck that's governed at 65.
I'm curious what software you have that allows you to do that and how much is the subscription?

Much of this stuff is because mid level unelected beaurocrats have to justify their existance. Not to try to turn this into a political rant, but just take a look at all the stupid policies, rules, and mandates all these different beaurocracies come up with. Go read up at the Dept of Agriculture website on the NAIS....national animal identification system for starters. It is amazing the silly ideas govt comes up with. And they all try to "sell" them under the mantra of safety.

Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link 8.0, $500 annual subscription from Detroit. Personally I wouldn't fiddle with the settings as I don't even cruise that fast. But a person could probably squeeze 2 or 3 mph out of it for passing purposes on the two lane.
