The motoring public in general is unaware that many, if not all, newer cars can be governed. Governing trucks is just the beta test for governing all vehicles at some point in the future. Can't do it with a white sign with numbers painted on it, so they'll do it with onboard computers. When everyone starts whining about all the big bad trucks going slow in their way and causing accidents, governing cars will be the proposal to fix it. Maybe I'm wrong. But government hasn't done a full scale repeal of a failed concept since they repealed prohibition. So when this proves to cause more problems than it solves, they won't rescind it. They'll just do something else dumb to "fix" it. We all know the problems that will arise governing all trucks, because we see the problems everyday from just some trucks being governed. I'd rather not be governed, but companies that don't govern their trucks are pretty scarce.

I confess to being afraid that the Government will neuter our personal car. I have a problem with that.
Im well aware that the Government holds the keys to testing cars, personal vehicles and such. Our town just completed a purchase of several Ford Armored Ecoboost police cruisers. The STATE runs dodge chargers or challengers rigged for 160+ mph flight where necessary. Fastest Ive gone was 132 personally in a 71 GT Torino and a friend had me up to 176 in his outrageous Ventura from 77 fitted with a 600 horse V8 and a powerglide trainsmission with a huge stall converter. That thing just to shift into gear inside a parking space required a FULL brake application with both feet to hold it there. The cam lobe on such a extreme tune was twisting the frame about 5 inches with each stroke. You were shaken and stirred before you had a chance to open up. And when you did it blew 150 for 170 plus before it finally starved of top end.
It would require a coordinated police reponse to settle that problem of speed. And they had that ability.
Ive always suspected that cars for the most part sold to the Public are deliberatly built to never be able to evade a Crown Vic. You young ones do not understand how crappy a Crown Vic could be once it's abuse, whipped and blowing compression past rings too shot to hold anything. But the new challenger/chargers the interceptors... I would love to have a hold of one for a half hour. Those things can get up and run.Dye Guardian Thanks this. -
Yeah, we just can't get past that "sheriff chases the bad guy" thing. You'd think, by now, with all the electronics on cars, there would be a way of disabling the ignition to stop them, but noooo, just make faster cruiser's to chase them crooks with that "getaway music" in the background, as the perp t-bones a mini-van. Terrible mentality.

I won't get out immediately as the proposal, if anyone were to read it, only applies to newly manufactured trucks. Us with 'older' trucks (2016 here lol) can then charge more for 'expedited' service.

I really don't see the purpose of wasting time and money passing a law for speed limiters. All the big fleets are already limited. Most owner operators are wise enough to know speed is hard on the bottom line. Habitual speeders are generally weeded out or settled down thanks to CSA scores. So yeah I think it's a pointless piece of legislation. Not to mention i think also it's dangerous. Ever try to pass grandma doing 54mph on a two lane road in a neutered Truck. Then in states like south Dakota with a 80mph speed limit, do you have any idea how fast you come up on a 65mph vehicle when you are doing 80. Granted very few trucks are running 80 but still

To avoid a crash in a steer tire blowout, you apply power. Not having that power available is why you see these neutered megas upside down in ditches.

In ontario where we are already supposed to be governed at 65, technically the law is written the cruise is to be set at 62 maximum and the pedal at 65. The intent is the truck will use the extra speed when slowly catching another vehicle and pass. In reality, 95% of people drive it against the governor.
It really is a stupid rule. Trucks driving "top fast" was never a problem in the first place. And now that they burn so cleanly, who cares how much fuel they burn? Even California will let you idle forever if you have that shiny sticker.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
Got 2 pre 2k trucks with E model cats. They can talk all they want and write whatever they like my trucks wont ever be governed.

I hope and pray that's the case. But if it isnt.....well, guess I'll go back to being a yard dog.x1Heavy Thanks this.
