You are absolutely right. The bloated beaurocracys, with little or no oversight, are actually more dangerous to the American way of life than are the elected Senators, Representatives, and the President.

I certainly hate the idea of a speed limiter mandate. If a company decides that they want their trucks governed that is fine, their choice.
But what you described is not caused by speed limiters, what you described is purely the driver. I drive a 63mph truck, I get passed by a truck doing 70ish. 10 miles down the road I catch him, I pull out to pass almost get by suddenly he is doing 62. Squeeze passed finally then I get tail gated for 5 miles. 10 miles later Hes backed way off. Another 10 miles hes going by at 70 mph again..
Speed limiters are being used as an excuse for wrecks when in reality it is the driver tailgating, passing a truck 1 mph slower and cutting over.MrEd Thanks this. -
Its unlikely the petition will help since only 1391 signatures signed. Needs 100k signs only before sept 17. How about more deaths to strike chain reaction wreck behind two trucks trying to pass each other at the same speed.
-
But speed limiters are not the cause of chain reaction crashes, drivers are.. Tailgating, texting, distracted driving and driving drowsy are the causes and all the fault of drivers(regaurdless if they are in a 4 wheeler or a commercial truck).. If someone can't see they are coming up on something the size of a truck, they aren't paying attention.
Really what is the difference between coming up on a slower moving truck or slow moving traffic due to construction? -
Which brings up the argument for making cell phone call or texting impossible over 20 mph.
-
But we don't hear any of that talk from dot. DOT will always regulate trucks because we don't have enough gonads to shut it down and they know it.
-
I drive 60-62 and when in the USA, I do it among trucks that are doing all different speeds. With all due respect, when you drive a 63 mph truck on a road where every truck is governed at 63, then you can get back to me.
In you opinion, what is the driver that got cut off supposed do when he gets cut off? -
I totally agree with you.. This is where I think we go wrong with speed limiters are unsafe arguement.
We need to argue the point that the general motoring public is unsafe around governed trucks.
WE need to inform the general motoring public there will be more slow trucks in their way and get them to fight for us. There is going to have to be more trucks to haul the same freight at a slower speed
This also completely destroys the whole truck will save XXXX millon gals a year.. there will have to be more engines running to make up the lost productivity, pretty sure that little fact was left out of the ATA's report.thejackal Thanks this. -
back out of it abit and ##### about on the radio.. lol!! really what else can you do? having a faster truck wont stop you from getting cut off. If you have a faster truck you'll just get cut off at a higher speed.
I've already experienced that. In Ontario when the 105 km/h rule came out and just about everyone was actually governed at 105 and a few slower.. If everyone is actually going the same speed there is no need to pass is there?
Hell this past winter there was a chain reaction accident on the 401 in a snow storm, on facebook there was a pic of this with the header "This is caused by speed limiters" Bull Sh@t it was caused by not driving for conditions, to fast, to close together wouldn't matter what the truck limiters were set at it still would have happened.
My point is we cant use speed limiters as a cause of accidents, in reality they don't cause or prevent crashes.Last edited: Sep 5, 2016

.... ahhhh....And then what does the truck behind him do?
Of course there is. Because everyone is hauling different weights with different power. If you can't see that I question if you even drivezinita17601, thejackal and fordconvert Thank this.
