My tach has never worked since I owned the truck, come to find out, the sensor is missing from the bell housing. I tried to install a sensor but it turned in extremely difficult. Tried cleaning the threads with a wire brush with no luck. Does anyone know what thread size the sensor is so I can get a tap to run through it. Thanks!!

If its a later model truck they had plastic sensor that push in and have a bolt hole a 1/2 in. away from hole where sensor goes in tail shaft, if its that type you have to dig out the broken part of sensor to get new one to slide in hole

Take sensor to tool store and match it up?

The TACH speed sensor does NOT go in the tail shaft, it goes in the bell housing and there are threads. I was wondering if anyone knows what size thread it is so I can get a tap to clean the threads. So why are you replying about a push in sensor? -

Well it would certainly assist us folks if you were to provide the engine make/model at least.

- it was late when i got in an put tail shaft but I will try to find a old rpm sensor an ck pitch of them?

For anyone looking or having the same issue. The threads on a bell housing for a tach speed sensor are 3/4-16. Thanks to all of those that responded.
blairandgretchen and QUALITYTRUCK Thank this.
