Back at it posting on good ol Truckers Report, Here is my latest drama...
Owner OP here, took my truck in for a basic PM at speedco. Waited outside, Not too bad 30mins. Pulled in the bay and from start to finish it took 3Hrs 57Min logged on e-log. Part of that was due to them being understaffed...no big deal, but the tech physically stopped mid job got in his car and left... so here are my issues below.
- Truck lost prime bc dip #### took fuel filters off
- lube tech came back and filled the truck with 2 gallons EXTRA...
they told me alright, your good to go. Pull out. This was before I knew there were issues. I went to crank the truck. They told me cycle the key to prime it.... keep in mind its a volvo an has a manual hand primer... but hey, maybe he knew something i didnt... after I primed the truck it seemed ok...until I pulled it out of their bay.
the truck threw a fit, fuel filter warning, the oil pressure gauge was jumping from 45psi to 65 back an fourth surging... i advised the tech something was seriously wrong and i needed to back up into their bay... he told me that their rule was they do not allow trucks to back up (even bobtail) and told me the only way for them to fix their mistake aka "take a look at it" was to pull it around the street to the rear entrance of the building... which i video recorded and did... the truck barley moved, stayed low rpm's and only 2nd gear. it wanted to die and was extremely shaky ...
pulled in the shop, explained to the guy what was going on he said oh yea sounds like a bad fuel filter...and i explained the oil...they checked it and was yelling at another guy who worked there blaming it on him...
eventually they got it back to running - i made them document this on the reciept and i called in to the complaint line. the GM called me and said take it to another store an they will check it out an make sure it was done right...and that i would get a "discount on next service and that I'm covered if anything goes wrong meanwhile"...
- my questions for the pros on here... could i have blown a seal? I've been smelling oil ever since the PM. never smelt anything before.
- the truck threw an injector 1 code after the service...probably because it was starving for fuel... but never had any issues before
- truck runs fine now, they spilt oil everywhere under the truck but the rain washed most of it away...
do you guys think i'm okay? or should i take it somewhere for some tests?
SpeedCo basic PM failure...here we go

Perhaps the oil smell is from the engine heat baking the spilled oil. Open the hood and look around, if you see oil, clean off the area and monitor. Too much oil can blow either the front main seal or rear. Thing is, blowing a main seal will be away from the parts that get really hot, like the turbo and exhaust manifold. Is it still showing an injector code? If so, I’d take it to the dealer ASAP. You don’t want to go down the road and a month later have to replace injectors because they dry fired the injectors.
From this point forward, check your dipstick effort starting the truck after it gets serviced.
Luck in battle.newdriver2 Thanks this. -
Thanks for the reply, rear main is only a few thousand miles old. Should be good there.
Injector code is not present anymore. Drove 400 miles today with ease. -
First problem was taking it to underqualified idiots in the first place. IMO, DIY or dealership.
spyder7723, newdriver2 and mhyn Thank this. -
what engine you have and what year is it?newdriver2 Thanks this.

agreed. I just do basic oil change at Speedco. oil and oil filter. I will not let idiots touch my fuel system.newdriver2 Thanks this.

Yea I agree, dealer wanted $490 speedco wanted $290. Figured it would be a quick stop in and out. Can't screw up a oil change...apparently you can.
It's a D12. I will do it myself from now on. Jeez. Unreal lol -
I was just about to trust Speedco to do my oil for the first time. Maybe not. Looks like I'll be making a mess in the driveway.
My D13 had been run out of fuel twice due to a bad fuel sender and wiring and the nut behind the wheel not checking the tanks. I don't trust the gauge anymore even though it's fixed, but that's not the point. The point is you probably didn't hurt your injectors. You were just fuel starved. Mine has run fine for 40-50k since I ran it out.newdriver2 Thanks this. -
On the driver side fuel tank is the main sensor .You may be able to un-plug it and clean it up a bit with a small wire brush. Spray some electrical spray cleaner/anti seeeze lube on it...see if it helps. Shine a flash light down in the tanks make sure your floaters are good. May be able to move them around with a coat hanger to see if you can unstick them ...

Well your first problem is you still call him or them a "tech" . (everybody gets a ribbon I guess)
I have had my oil changed a speedco before in the cold of winter and they always show me the dipstick so how did you let them over fill it.. I always watch them start to finish. I watch to make sure they grease all fittings. Nobody cares about your truck like you do or should.
