Actually, it will be a lot more expensive if we’re talking about 15w40 conventional oil and 10w30 synthetic blend.

I hear 10w30 is better in cold temperatures because it’s thinner than 15w40.

I’d say they want you to bring in your used oil regardless of where you purchased it from. One, they sell it to recycling companies, and two, they can say they’re “green” in an advertisement.

I don’t think they want you to mix coolant with oil.

Yes 10w30 is thinner and better in cold temps. I wish they made it in conventional instead of having to buy semi synthetic. I run Delo 15w40 in my Cummins and change it every 15k miles. I would still do 15k mile intervals even if I ran semi synthetic but I don't see the benefit of paying the extra money. Oil may be different now but when synthetics first came out they weren't worth the extra cost because they didn't provide any added protection over conventional. I was told this by a rep when I went to a seminar about oil. 15w40 conventional has kept trucks running for many years.

Back in the 80s, more than once I saw guys draining their oil on the ground In the dirt at some of the more rural truckstops. Some of the stops even had signs saying something like "No draining oil on pavement". A guy could go to jail for that now.

I’ve seen some TA/Petro’s with signs about no draining oil on their property. Last time I did mine was at night in a rest area. Hahaha.
