That's not always true. I went to orientation at a company where the recruiter said lots of companies will say it's for insurance purposes, but he says that's a bunch of bull. He claims companies have a lot more latitude with insurance carriers than what they let drivers believe and that usually when a company says that, the real reason is your employment history or some kind of issue they don't like about you.

I agree, most insurance companies want no DUIs or reckless driving and no recent loss of license. Outside of these things most insurance will leave it up to the company. Also remember a lot of carriers are self insured.

Just to tag onto this thread - I've been looking into trucking CDL options. I have a speeding ticket (48 in a 25, but it's kind of a weird/unmarked speed trap spot). I tried and thought that I had pleaded it down to a non-moving violation but apparently it still appears on my driving abstract as speeding. I had filled out an application for Jim Palmer but obviously they don't want me. I'll follow up with Prime as a second option for CDL training, but at the moment I'm thinking of just taking a good course locally and then casting around for jobs once licensed. Most of all, I am shaking my head at my stupidity, but time to grow up and stop with the reckless behavior I guess, LOL. Hopefully if I can get some experience under my belt while waiting for this to fall off my license I'll make some progress. Any thoughts or suggestions, or if you just want to laugh at me - it's appreciated.

@ttjNYdriver - If Jim Palmer rejected your application, so will Prime. Prime is more strict than Jim Palmer.
CRST or Carolina Logistics might take you. If not, then go to a private 160 hr. cdl school.

I had a big speeding ticket on my record in pov and had no problems getting hired. I even had a cdl at the time.

After a year of a ticket that was 16 over the limit would this still be an issue for me to try and obtain a cdl?

Also, on this note would it be better if i went to a local school to get a cdl or try one of the large mills?
