No sir I pulled the transmission out today found nothing wrong with the reverse gear .Check the air pressure regulator changed the air valve on top of the transmission it was leaking a little air . Put the transmission back in and put everything back together except putting the floor board back in and its still doing it

At my first tractor trailering job I put a few dozen thousand miles on a ‘97 or so International with an N-14 and a 9 speed Spicer.

You are right about those being a bit of a trick. I noticed the one I had responded better to double clutching than it did to floating.

The nickname for Spicer transmissions was "rock crusher", iirc.

Many were eventually changed out, but I saw one like the only one I ever drove with one again today, even the same company.

That was also a n14 in a binder , but with a 10 speed. The ones with Detroit seemed easier to drive from riding along with them. The one I had was miserable to drive.

    MACK E-6 Thanks this.

I would make a guess and say you have a problem in the rear of the transmission in the range section that the previous owner had repaired.
The only thing different between low and high is the selection of the range hub.
I am thinking the range hub or fork could have an issue.
Remember when in all forward ranges the range hub is spinning in the same direction but it spins in the opposite direction in reverse.
I have seen before where a range hub with worn teeth will stay engaged under torque in forward but when you spin the hub in the opposite direction ( reverse) the teeth will disengage and cut loose and grind.
Also when in high range you are engaging a different set of teeth on the other side of the range hub which could explain why your good in high reverse.

My first and last Spicers were both in International 9400isx's.

    I miss those trucks...
