15 min pre trip, drive 6 hours, 3 hours off duty, drive 4.5 hours, 15 min on duty for fueling, Totals remaining: 3 hours remain on 14, 30 mins remain on 11. 7 hours sleeper... Get back 6.25 hrs on 14, and 6 hours on 11...
    3+6.25=9.25 hrs on 14
    .5+6=6.5 hours on 11

    OR...
    14-4.75=9.25 on 14
    11-4.5=6.5 on 11

    Same either way

This is what I got today. Was driving 2 hours after full 10 hours rest, then 7 hours in sleeper - nothing came back. 8 hours in sleeper - nothing came back. Only were available hours left from my 14.
Probably my ELD software not good?

Split sleeper. If you take 3 hours in the bunk when you start again you have the exact same amount of hours left before you got into the bunk.

If you take the 7 hour break later, your 14-hour clock does restart but it restarts at the time you ended your three-hour break.

Also the break times that they show you are the minimum. You can take your break at 4 hours and 6 hours or 5 hours and 5 hours however you like.

The result is always the same as I wrote above.

Cant do 4 and 6... Or 5 and 5... Sure you can do more than 3 hours for the shorter break, but the longer break it MUST be at least 7 hours.

I can't find that exact article but I do think I misunderstood it.

The break has to be 8/2 or 7/3.

    Thanks for the clarification.

    What ELD do you have?

I have Omnitracs Qualcomm and on mine there is a box at the bottom right hand corner that says "Will Split SB". I had to manually check that box (so a checkmark appeared in the box) by pushing the box with my finger on the qualcomm screen. After I did that, my ELD will now update my HOS after I complete a 2 hour, 3 hour, 7 hour and/or 8 hour break. The ELD updates my HOS after all 4 of those break times.

Someone on this forum told me to check the "Will Split SB" box and I was an idiot and thought because the box looks like it's shaded in on the screen, that it was already checked. No, it wasn't, that box needs an actual checkmark inside of the box to update the HOS after each of the breaks, including the smaller ones.

    Hope this helps.

I have BigRoad ELD. I need more time to play with this new rules to figure out how it's works.

You only get hours back after you complete the 2nd part. If you had drove again then stopped and logged 2-3 hours off/SB you’d have gotten back the hours that you used before the 7-8 in SB.
