The lines to the shifter come off the tranny, not the directly from the truck. Unless you meant that you had transmission trouble, and not tranny trouble.
That's opposite. Air releases the fan, with no air the fan will be constantly engaged. If the fan clutch itself fails, i.e.no friction, there are holes to bolt the fan carrier and hub together, giving you a constant fan as well.
