18 speed low hole is 14.7, 8LL in deep reduction is 15.2 or something like that

low gear in OD on an 18 is a 12.xx like the 13 speed

No Sir, the 3rd lever set on the right side of the transmission, and shifted the back box on the main transmission…

Drove a 1972 Louisville with a 8V-71, backed up with a 5x4 twin stick setup. As my Dad says, you could grab gears by the baskets full….. :)

If you look to the right side you can see the linkage from the 3rd shift lever to the rear box….

@Oxbow you have any knowledge of this setup? I’ve driven a lot of older trucks, but this predates me lol….

The auxillary is mounted so far back to make it easier to remove the main transmission when needed , or is there another reason?

    OLDSKOOLERnWV and TooTiredToTalk Thank this.

My guess would be to eliminate having a carrier bearing included in the driveline. There would be 3 driveshafts instead of 2 if the auxiliary was up closer. It’s a pretty long wheelbase truck….

I've drove 1 or 2 rigs with sticks. This one Mack had a tri stick set up. 5 main,4 aux,2 spd hi/low transfer. A logger 10sp, 4 spd aux with 2 spd rear ends.

    TooTiredToTalk and Oxbow Thank this.
