3/4/11 I spoke to a US Xpress recruiter today and was sent emails with application and info. The health insurance is not real great but at least they have trucks governed # 65 mph and not 60-62 mph. I haven't driven truck since 2003 and have never had to deal with the new Hrs of Svce (14/10 stuff) and have never heard of being hassled about idling until I started reading in this forum...apparently prevalent now due to diesel costs. US Xpress tells me if I have 18 mos verifiable driving/OTR in the last 10 years and pass their driving test, I don't have to go out with a trainer. Sounds like they've loosened up their hiring practices a bit. I live 5 miles fromtheir Okla City terminal and would be a solo driver. I also hear they have some new 10-speeds now. In one thread I heard some are a Super-10 tranny but I didn't know they were still even being used. Any news about US Xpress would be appreciated.

I just hook up my truck and then when I pull out I check it out when drives are angled to one side.Bad knees make me not squat

Well they lied to you as usual. All trucks arent governed at 65. Some are as low as 62. They all vary between 62 and 65. If you dont stay out at least 3 weeks with usxpress dont even bother hoping to make any money. You will average 2200-2500 miles a week. They are very unorganized and are not good at planning at all. I promise you will never see detention, layover or breakdown pay unless you have a good fleet mgr. I had 3 in the 3years I worked there and never saw a dime. Good luck and hope everything works out.
Oh yeah the recruiter will claim they have all kinds of trucks but sometimes they dont have any at all. Ive seen drivers wait 2weeks waiting on a truck waiting for another driver to quit. Also if your truck breaks down try to avoid terminals at all costs. One time all I needed was a oil change and I waited in Irving tx for 5days and never recieved breakdown or layover pay. Be sure to write all your expences down and keep a log of everything. Sometimes payroll likes to forget expenses you send in. -
That would do Chimpintarps

Thanks for the "heads up" Daniel. I may go with Willis Shaw instead of US Xpress. The disorganization at USX would likely drive me crazy. I've also read some decent things about USX but when I read about directions to shippers and consignees being screwy, I balk. That can put a driver in a very precarious spot. USX would be convenient though because the Okla City terminal is only 5 miles from my house...I don't know as if I trust them though. From other drivers I've learned that Shaw doesn't really B.S. you (much). Willis Shaw will accept me once I recover from this neck surgery without having to go back to school. They will put me with a trainer for 10,000 miles, which is about as minimal as I can find anywhere. I think about 5 days would be plenty but, I'm lucky to get an offer like Willis Shaw is giving me. This was approved above the recruiter level too, so I believe them. I know enough already to stay away from FFE and CR England, although I'm sure some drivers must like it there. Gotta play the percentages because no driving job/company is going to be perfect.

10/4 I understand completly. There is no perfect trucking company out there you just gotta do your homework and check people out. As far as those directions go I know what your talking about also there too. They like to always say that us drivers are the one who wrote those directions but whenever we send in a macro to change them because there wrong they never get changed. Ive seen many of a bad directions and sent in corrections and checked to see of they ever changed them and for some reason they never do it. Maybe they think its funny when drivers are calling in cussing em out cause directions are bad. I never called in and cussed em out cause I try to be a better person than that but after a while things do get old and people get tired of things. At Uspress they like to pay zipcode miles so sometimes your losing a lot of miles on loads. Expecialy when they give your a routing solution. Basicaly a routing solution says you have to go a particular way to get to your destination. Sometimes those solution are way off. One time I had a load going thru upstate New York and the routing solution caused me to lose 150miles.
Eventualy I got tired of it and did my own routing to cut miles. Now some of you may ask why did you not do that before. Well I would have but Usxpress likes to have this speach all the time on the phone or in orientation on the satcom or wherever about how there route solutions are always right and you must stay to them no matter what and if you dont you can be charged out of route miles. They even preached it was a no no to take even a take a shorter route if we needed one cause fuel could be higher or we could breakdown and breakdown cost could sore so we always needed to make sure to stick to the route solution. It was always something with these guys. Alot of the stuff I grip here about I could of handled and probably could of stayed with Uspress if I wanted and probably could of pushed to go back to work for them maybe if I wanted but of all the things that irk me in the world is when you got dipatchers down there in tunnel hill ga were I would go home to and that new orientation director down there and some of those other office personal people running around down there talking to some of the drivers like there scum and 4yr olds it realy pisses me off. You got drivers who are staying 3 or 4 weeks maybe months at a time paying these guys paycheck and they dont care no more than a man and a moon about the driver and it realy irks me when they just come out and blatantly show it. I never realy understood how they could go home at night and lay down in bed next to there spouse and know everything is okay when they were treating drivers and starving some drivers out of there house and home down there. Expecialy that new orientation director down there. He is a real tall kinda bald guy with glasses. I never been one to fight but I would like to pop him in the mouth. He is so arogant and makes fun of the drivers and basicaly comes out and says that all drivers are stupid and always talking about statisics about how dumb drivers are on some things. The dude has never held a cdl license in his life but he can get up there and run his mouth 4 or 5 times a week cause there always having orientation class and say what he wants. Anyways Ill quit ranting. You have a good one and I hope everything works out for you with Shaw. The reason I didnt quit sooner and stayed so long with them was because I thought it was the industry standard. I later found out by talking there is a heck of a lot better out there than what I was having to put up with. Just dont put yourself in my shoes and go down the Usxpress route. It will get you nowhere.
