I had done that, but it was a bearing in the back of the alternator and the heat never made it all the way to the front apparently. Should have felt the whole thing, hind site.

The infrared thermometer is something that I need to remember to get next time I am home.

Doesn't say to much for the cat house that worked on it 1st... Glad you got it figured out.

I change my belts every 2 years, and check everything else. But I broke a tensioner this year. Six year old truck. So I'm thinking changing the pulleys and tensioner might not be a bad thing. Every 5-6 years.

A noisy belt what I do is take a pry bar works great put it on the Idler pulley center bolt , the squeal is the bearing cage is broken and the balls are rubbing together, the alternator just put it on the housing, the AC put it on the housing, the fan hub put it on the mounting bracket. Some times if you take soap and water especially on an idler pulley if it is bad and you spray the belt before the pulley the offending pulley will actually stop. I have never seen belt dressing do anything positive.
Every trucker should have an infered temp gun, after an hour or so of running the offending pulley should be hotter, the alternator the back end would have been hotter.
If it is your truck you should do tests every so often on what things are when normal then when something is becoming a problem you will notice the difference. Finding some problems like a wheel hub may save an accident.
    Just a thought!

Brake fluid in a squirt bottle will will shut a squeaky belt up every time, but nothing helps a bad bearing except a new one. Glad you got it fixed.
