Squire or FFE?

    I would probably apply once it got closer to your birthday since your birthday is about 4 months away. Just in case you get a call back you don't want the process to be stopped because of your birthday being a few months away. But then again some of the other people on the forum may have a different opinion about what I just wrote.

    By the way I asked on another thread about Roehl and the training school. So far I have not got any bad feedback and from what I found out online it seems to be a pretty decent company to work for at least for a newbie like me.

    Yeah, I feel you. I think they got a Drop yard in northern FL, I could be wrong. I saw it on their website, but I know for a fact the nearest terminal is in Georgia which is some distance from me and I didn't see any drop yards near me. Ill take what I can get of course, but I am going to try and get on with FFE. No idea if they got any close terminals to me or any thing, but what I REALLY think it boils down to is rather or not you have shippers or receivers near you in order to get you a load home/load out. So, If I were you, I would find some Shippers and Receivers in your area. Then ask the company if they ship/receive from there. It may be of some help to them and you as far as getting home time.

    Thanks for the tip. Was going to start applying at places like mid-late August and try and get a time set for Sept 22nd as most schools are 17-18 days. So that would work out perfectly turning 21 and heading out with the trainer that same day. haha! So far my list is FFE, and now you got me debating Roehl and Central, but ill definitely take what I can get to get the Training and 1 Year Experience.

    I have a strange feeling that some companies won't let up with asking you to become a O/O. Sorry, But hell No! Got an uncle doing that and is making out quite well as he doesn't have bills and is able to manage his money, but I wouldn't do that if I were you. ;D I wish CHR Roberson was still around. Step dad use to work for them, very good company. Guess they went bankrupt or got bought out or some thing. :/

    Central in my personal opinion is a company I would stick away from. I just did not like their approach to how they handled information. The recruiter made me fill out a application before giving me information which I just found out that they have listed something on my DAC report about not attending orientation. I will have to call them in the morning as I did not schedule any orientation with them. I am not putting them down as a company but just sharing my experience with them.

    I also spoke to a recruiter from Roehl this morning and it seems like a lot of upfront cost that is required. I just don't have a lot of money to chuck out. When I spoke to their recruiter I was told that I would have to pay hotel, transportation, food, etc upfront with a processing fee. I expected to pay for my cdl but it would be a lot easier to have less cost upfront but I say hey if you have the money than why not. Besides the cost they seem like a decent company. I will call FFE tomorrow and let you know what information I get from them.

    Wow, that is crappy man. I would get that Report Squared away if possible. Also, I was reading Roehl's website today and it said everything was paid for except you have to pay for the CDL, processing fees, and some thing else. It never said you have to pay for everything else upfront? I'm so confused. Talk about false advertisement........

    Yeah, that was what I was told by their recruiter just this morning. I would say give them a call and see if you get a different answer than I did. As for central I will be calling them in the morning as they need to get that resolved immediately.

    Could have been a mistake. I mean I'm sure they got lots to do with people calling every day about this or that. Your name probably got mixed up by accident, but definitely get that settled. Wish these #### months can start to go by so I can get OTR. I would call, but I'm going to wait it out for a few more months. If you're leaving in September just hold off until early August. In the mean time just ask them questions and stuff as you go along. You may end up wanting to change your mind about a company and then you will already be scheduled for Orientation an Training. I know from my step fathers experience that the slightest thing you do to some of these companies they will try and put it on your report. I mean anything, if their dicks, but that usually consist of 85% if not more of those companies out there. Smaller companies are not so bad though.... Keep me posted on what each company says and ill relate what they say to me here in a few months. ;) Pm me if you want to keep me updated.

    Guys --I talked to an FFE driver yesterday and he was quite happy with them. You should consider spending time at your closest truck stop and talk to some of the drivers of companies your looking at. I plan to go with a local school and let the company I start with pay most of my tuition costs. Also I did not like how vague Roehl's website is all the others Ive looked list their "benefits" on their site and what they pay. Another one to keep in mind if your desperate is PAM they apper to pay all the upfront hotel,food, bus BUT they will make you drive team for 6 months to make their money back. I dont like that. Few drivers ive heard about stay with their first/starter company the important thing is to get on the road with as little cost as possible.

    Here is some info I got from an FFE recruiter. This is what you need for the FFE Academy. Just a quick note, if you already live in Texas, save yourself sometime and get your permit before going to the Academy. This will allow you to jump ahead ahead of the others by 3 or 4 days.

    I strongly agree with Machocyclone about getting your permit before joining a school. Im currently about to enter the 2nd week of the Roadmaster truck driving school we spent a full four days pretty much 10 hours a day preparing for our permits and wasted so much time and every time the instructor stepped out of the class it became social hour. If I came in with my permit as said above I would have jumped ahead a lot of people and gotten away from some of the motormouth children who failed their's and only contributed by disrupting the study time of the other students. The school rep will try to talk you out of taking time to get your permit as they want more reason to justify charging you $6400 for 3 weeks of school and from my account there if you had your permit they would be charging you the SAME amount for 11 days of schooling if you come in with your permit. Ill give more details about Roadmaster in a separate thread.

    FFE is free as long as you drive for the company for 1 year.You don't get paid for the 18 days at the academy but when you go on the road with a trainer for six weeks you make $455 a week.I graduated last week and will be out with my trainer on Monday.I am sitting in the hotel for the weekend and getting paid for it because the trainers truck is in the shop.
