Back in the day when bias tires was the norm, you adjusted the wear by increasing or deflating the tire. If you were wearing the edges, you increased the air pressure because the increased air pressure would push the center of the tire out.
However the opposite is true with radials.
The best analogy used by a tire engineer was to partially air up a balloon then tape the center of it. Now increase the pressure and see what happens.... the center remains the same diameter and the edges expand, well a steel belt radial is the same way. The center steel belts will not allow the center of the tire to expand.
Don't believe me ??? then ho come a SS tire don't distort and loose its squared shape at high speeds ?
Over inflation is as dangerous as under inflation, however I'd rather have a tire at max inflation then under inflated... that will cause the thread to separate from the casing and you know what happens then... BOOOOM
