What cb radio should I get that has SSB? I'm looking at the United bearcat 980 for $120 or any other cb with ssb like the Galaxy. I do plan on modifying it a bit for longer range so take that into consideration. I've heard of modifying an armature radio to run cb, I think the galaxy brand can do that. Of course with ssb.

I have never owned a bearcat 980 CB radio, but from reading reviews from the guys who do own them, they are very happy with the radio. As far as modifying the bearcat 980, there’s not much you can do to it. It has what they call surface mount components inside, so that really limits you as to what you can do with it.

It sounds like you’re new to CB radios. As far as converting a ham radio to run on the 11 meter band, I wouldn’t recommend you going that route. It will cost you a lot of money to have the radio converted to the 27 MHz frequency and have a tech do a proper alignment on the radio. Not to mention the initial cost of the ham radio itself. I would recommend staying with the bearcat 980.

Just go get something simple, cobra or Uniden and learn how to use it.

Rci 2950dx if you can't run the heavy wires to the bat for the 2970n2. 2950 is the 2970n2 without the built in 300w amp.
