I’ve got to replace the rubber bushings on the stabiliser bars where they go onto the alloy pedestal. Can you just remove the pedestal caps and simply drag the axle back with the brakes off, or is it best to unbolt everything and drop the bar? Best to take the wheels off or leave them on? I did a complete stabiliser bar replacement a few years ago when the bars themselves were actually worn, but I just need to replace the rubber bushings this time around. It’s a dual alloy pedestal btw.
Measure the diameter of the bar and you can get solid bushings for it. On my car they are 33MM and I got a kit off Amazon.
Roll back with bottle jack with wheels on. I uploaded AG100 service manual and AG200 service manual cause it shows bottle jack trick.
This isn't a little sway bar on a car. These arms are at least 2 inches round and actually hold the axles to the suspension. Don't think you'd be able to get a solid bushing onto the bar and around the bend.
Thanks. That’s going to be very useful. I’ll get the parts this morning. Probably use my portapower instead of a jack, interesting they don’t show the dual pedestal version of the AG100.
Appreciate ya posting those A portapower is what I used when I done mine last time but have also used the bottle jack in years past.
Being dual pedestal and this is the front pedestal where the wear is, you have to drag the front axle back, compressing the jack shaft. Easiest way now I look at it is to take the front axle wheels off and drop the stabiliser bar entirely. Shouldn’t be too hard. What do you think of the wear? Can it wait or should I do it over the weekend? Rear stabiliser bar and all other bushes look good.
I put new ones in yesterday. Took about two hours of work time. Much easier if you take the wheels off. Only the front axle needed doing. When all the other bushes on the suspension eventually wear out out I’ll do the whole lot next time. I replaced all the bushes a few years ago, not a huge or difficult job, just time consuming.
