Isn't that the truth. I've got pictures of my, now 17 yr old, completely covered in dirt at 2. I never did fret about them getting dirty. Heck we had a sand box when I was a kid and we were in it all the time. We hardly played inside if the weather was nice enough. Same with my boys. Outside all the time, still are, just now their covered in grease instead of dirt when they walk in. :biggrin_2559:

Too sterile of an environment is asking for trouble. :yes2557:

Mine is just starting to get into working on cars! He only 13. I've never known ANYONE who could get so DIRTY! LOL! My best friend once threatened to hose him down in the front yard, because if she let him in the house with that much dirt, she could be convicted of real estate theft!

That stuff is worth it's weight in GOLD! My hubby worked driving a wrecker carrier last summer, and let me tell you, that was some NASTY FILTHY grease! I would pour about a quart ofSimple Green in my BIG bucket, pour some water in it, and throw in those nasty clothes... let it soak over night and then wash them... 3 hours later, looks like brand new clothes!

The Holistic and Whole Body approach is the way to go for darn sure. The problem with incorporating taditional medicine with holistic is not so much a problem with the doctors because some doctors will tell you to compliment with an alternative.

The largest problem lies within the pharmaceutical companies and the Food/Ag industry. The politics of medicine make the daily comings and going in DC look like childs play. And unless you buy certified organic meat of any kind you are eatting a healthy dose of antiobiotics. We wont even discuss what is sprayed onto your food or even how growing anything anymore has become a case of who's who in the race to hyrbid and cross pollinate fruits and vegetables.

Please don't misunderstand me I am very supportive of natural remedies, homepathic, holistic or whatever term you use to define it but if one is to go this route you need to seriously research it also. Natural does not mean safe. Any and every herb, roots, leaves, teas or stems, etc that are grown can reach toxic levels quick depending on a persons own body chemistry. Outside agents such as medications, prescription or otherwise can also enhance or alter the outcome desired effect. So please be careful what you use and how you use and do not ever think that twice as much means quicker and better faster.

Well said, Shandera! In order to use holistic remedies properly, you NEED to understand EXACTLY what you are doing! I've been studying this since I was in my early teens, and I am still learning! There is more to learn every day! For one thing, do NOT combine more than 100mg with ANY blood thinner! It can lower your blood pressure too much!

Thanks......I do my best to chime in on things that might help. Lord knows we all are in a constant state of learning and every bit of info helps.

I'm always lookin for an excuse to get out and go for a drive and I just noticed you're out of the Central Valley. Ya know one of these days all of us girls from the area should get together for lunch and swap stories.

Why compare staph to AIDS? AIDS doesn't kill all that many people compared to other things, ie cancer. AIDS is very over rated in the numbers of people it kills, other than the 3rd world!!

We have been breeding Antibiotic-resistant bugs from the time antibiotic's were first used. It was only a matter of time until this happened. Antibiotic's do not kill all the bugs, some live to grow stronger, natural selection at work. Doctors knew about this from the early 50's, it was just never headlines.

You want to see antibiotic-resistant bugs, go read about 3rd world hospitals. I read a book about this back in the early 90's, call the Hot Zone.

Antibiotic soap and wipes that the general public has been using for the past 10 years is also contributing to this.

MRSA was diagnosed in students from two local school districts yesterday and while I can't comment on the other district, our district is in panic mode. They are "disinfecting" the entire middle school where the kids attend. I need to do some reading, but I thought MRSA was only transmitted via personal contact, so all this cleaning and disinfecting seems like a waste of time and money to me.

I grew up in farm country and we'd be in the barn... then stop by, pick, and eat mulberries and wild raspberries on the way to the house. At the house, we might grab a cookie before heading to the bathroom. Now understand, we were taught to wash our hands after using the bathroom facilities... and we did... but I often think about the germs and crap we ingested in our daily activities. And not once in my childhood was I ever diagnosed with e.coli despite our laid-back way with handling farm animals.

I left my kids grow up the same way. I wasn't a stickler about hand-washing, and I do NOT buy into the anti-bacterial stuff... and I admit that we sometimes enact the five-second rule if some delectable little foodstuff falls onto the floor.

There are exceptions. In the course of my work, I handle a lot of money... cash... and I when I'm done with the money, I always slip off to the restroom to wash my hands. That's my one hang-up. It's the same when I leave the doctor's office. I always wash my hands after leaving there.

I guess I'm a little bit holistic... and little bit traditional... but mostly, I try to let my immune system handle as much as it can on its own. I'm pretty slow to medicate. Most times I win (knock on wood)... but those times that I don't? I'm pretty involved by the time I see the doctor. :biggrin_25526:
