Thanks for the additional thoughts. We don't change cartridges, they are $84 here. So we just change out the whole dryer at $125. That way you get a new heat element too.
Like I said earlier too, the newest DD Detroit's no longer use air to purge the def line, but ones like mine are very dependent on dry air.
I'll keep posting if this keeps working or if it screws up again. Aren't we lucky. We get to pay 200 grand to be test pilots and trouble shooters. Awesome!! LOL.

Why would want to add alcohol or anything ahead of the dryer. It seems to me that the dryer would purge anything added to the system ahead of the dryer. Right or wrong?
-
Alcohol kills the dessicant. Alcohol goes in after the dryer.

My truck freezes the main line once and awhile before the dryer. That's why I pull the line off the compressor and add it there...
The dryer spits most of it out but not all. It's also hard on the cartridge . But it's a quick way of getting it in... And you don't have to worry about your purge valve freezing . -
I just always felt it wasn't the place to add anything (before the dryer).
-
I put mine in after the dryer.
I can't get to my main line after the compressor Cat sdp.......the comp on the DD15 is on the back of the engine and buried under my cab. -
After is better.... But sometimes in the field you know .....
-
I hear you. That's why mine was such a nightmare when it froze up on the highway......you can't get to the main line. I miss my old Cat.....everything was right there out in the open.
So far I haven't had any more issues.Cat sdp Thanks this.
